Title: 1871 Census, Liverpool - Missing TUNNEY family
Post by: Alison Smith (nee Hargreaves) on Monday 25 January 10 15:43 GMT (UK)
I've been trying to locate the Tunney family in Liverpool on the 1871 census:

1851 (as TURNEY) they were at 35 Brick Street, Liverpool (head Hugh, wife Mary, children incl Hugh aged 11)
1861 (as TUNNY) they were at 33 Brick Street, Liverpool (head Hugh, wife Mary, children incl Hugh aged 19)
1871 TBA
1881 (as TUNNY) son Hugh (aged 38) was still at 33 Brick Street, Liverpool (with wife Anne)

Hugh TUNNEY, plus wife Mary TUNNEY (both born in County Mayo, Ireland), and other children include:  Bridget, Mary, Winifred, Margaret and Ann as well as Hugh.

I have membership to Ancestry and have tried all forename/surname combinations, as well as actually searching through the enumerator's description sheets for parts of Liverpool, but to no avail.

Does anyone have access to the 1871 Liverpool street index, which might show the folio/piece numbers etc for Brick Street?  What "area" of Liverpool would Brick Street fall under?

Any advice to help me knock this brick (street) wall down greatly appreciated.  These are my husband's 2 x Gt Grandparents - and trying to find out a bit more about them!

Thanks...  Alison

there is a 13yr old son whose name I cannot make out who was b Liverpool and also a number of lodgers.  The son's name begins with G

The piece number is 3778 and folio between 85-94 page 176

I have the Lancs 1871 on CD which is how I found them

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou........ :)

I can now see they were transcribed as TUNEY - and I knew (hoped) I'd come up trumps posting on here!

You're both stars - and thanks for taking the time to help.  This should now give me a few more clues to the family.

Brilliant!   Alison

Windflower,
This is my family.
You are the first person I have come across researching them. Mary Tunney born 1912 is my mother. I am doing this reply from work so I will contact you again, hopefully tonight ( Wednesday 10th march
