Title: Colt Breaker
Post by: mayday on Monday 25 January 10 09:34 GMT (UK)
Hi
I have in my family tree an occupation as 'Colt Breaker'. Does anyone else have this and can they discribe what they would have done exactly? Guessing it was training horse, but cannot seem to find much under 'Colt Breaker'.

That's exactly what they would have done.....broken the horse in to saddle/bridle and eventual riding.

If you G**gle 'Horse breaking techniques' you should come across sites explaining how it's done.

It's only recently horse 'gentling' has come into vogue, prior to that it was a rather harsh job....tie the colt up, slap a saddle on it's back a bit between it's teeth and jump on    ::)

An interesting article.

Hi

Thankyou for that. Sounds dangerous. My distant relative for Colt Breaker around the 1860s. I must have been a hard life. Thankyou very much for info,I shall have a read up.

Kind Regards

Jacquie :)
