I believe Owen OWEN the draper lived in Penmaenmawr for a period. Is this house still standing and if so what is the address?Would love more information about the family.

You really need to give us more info about him if you want us to search for his history. The Welsh 1901 census has 148 entries for Owen Owen just in Caernarvon - which one is the one you are enquiring about? Was he even born in Caernarvon or did he perhaps just live there for a time? If so - when?

What house? When was he born? Who were his parents?
If he was born before 1881 - have you checked the 1881 census for him? Have you checked the 1911 for him?
Have you tried Googling Owen Owen to get more info?
Are you a descendant/relative of the family? If so - perhaps living family members may be able to help with more info

Hello Aleri,
Is this the same Owen Owen who was connected to the department stores in Chester and Liverpool? I think he is also linked to New Lanark and the Owen family who were great philanthropers of the time.
Do you have any idea of the dates he lived in Penmaenmawr?
I think that Electoral Rolls and Directories might be sources to try.

Hello Aleri,
Penmaenmawr was the home to quite a number of well known people and has connections with the Gladstone family who also lived there.
There is a good website on the village at
http://www.penmaenmawr.com/index.htm
You might find a look through this gives the answer. There could be someone who is connected to this site who can help also. There is a Forum were you can post queries.
I couldn't find him on any of the census returns living in Penmaenmawr. It would be a case of the Directories, or Electoral Rolls. Local knowledge also possible.

I have just seen that Owen Owen bought the Tan y Foel Estate in Penmaenmawr in 1902.
There are Owen Owen manuscripts in the National Library of Wales, reference code: GB 0210 MSOWOW.
I saw that there is a mansion named Tan y Foel and that this was built in the 1860s for Murray Gladstone, a cousin of Gladstone the Prime Minister. I am not sure if this was the house where Owen Owen lived.

Hi Aleri,
If you are still looking for this then Owen Owen's house is still standing. It's called Noddfa now and is a kind of Catholic retreat. Here's their website http://www.noddfa.org.uk/. It's on Conwy Old Road in Penmaenmawr about a couple of hundred yards from where Graiglwyd Road joins on to it and is opposite Tan y Foel cemetery. Jo above was right - it is the Tan y Foel building that was built by Murray Gladstone.
Cheers,
Gwyn
