Stumbled across this thread while tracing the descendents of Frederick William Albert Roberts, son of John Walker Roberts & Elizabeth Gardner Mead.
Irene Minnie Roberts was first daughter of Frederick William Albert Roberts and Minnie Eliza Edmonds.
I don't know much about Minnie Eliza Edmonds but have managed to collate a fair bit of info on John Walker Roberts & his wife Elizabeth Gardner Mead (my 3rd great grandparents)
I have also just downloaded the will of Frederick William Albert Roberts which is very interesting reading ..... particularly as he bequeaths photos of HIS grand parents (which I believe are Isaac Stamper Roberts & Priscilla Halliday being parents of John Walker Roberts) to two of his sons. Having just discovered this information I am currently on the trail of Frederick's descendents in the hope that somewhere these photos might exist (ever hopeful).
Crabby - are you still out there somewhere?

Good day cocksie
Thank you for your interest.
The reason I am following up on these sub-family names is that my Great Grandfather's Death Certificate is wrong - in that his own name was inserted as his name! This error has been confirmed by the State Archives.
George Gilbert EDMONDS b abt 1825-1833 d 1906 Brisbane.
There is no record of his birth [possibly in Wexford IRE], or his method of travel to Australia prior to 1857, I am at a virtual dead end.
He is buried in the South Brisbane Cemetery close to where I live.
So, I must now look at documents held by families.
George Gilbert EDMONDS' family of 13 has been generally documented and they include the persons who married his daughters and their descendants. There may be references to their names etc. in documents.
Any confirmation of these events and photo images and particularly copies of documents, will be appreciated.
Thank you
Crabby

Hiya Crabby
As per my original post I know very little about Minnie Eliza Edmonds but have collated a fair bit on her husband's family as her husband was the brother of a direct ancestor of mine.
My ancestors (and actually current family) appear to be devoid of cameras - very few photos about so can't help you there.
I have a copy of her husband's will but that makes no mention of any Edmonds bar his wife. If you would like a copy I am happy to email it to you.
I do know the following:
She married Frederick William Albert Roberts 24 Mar 1887. From:
The Queenslander Newspaper Saturday 2 April 1887
ROBERTS-EDMUNDS - On the 24th March, at the Wesleyan Church, Albert-street, by the Rev. E.J. Rodd, Rev F. W. A. Roberts, third son of Mr J Walker Roberts, Seven-trees, Petersham, Sydney to Minnie Eliza, second daughter of Mr George Gilbert Edmonds, Casalpina, Merton-road, South Brisbane
So, obviously Edmonds family was in OZ by 1887.
The little info I have on Minnie's death is via the Ryersons Index. From the Sydney Morning Herald 30 Aug 1955. Lists her age as 91. NSW BDM have her parents as George Gilbert Edmonds and Mary Eliza (sic).
Minnie Eliza was a widow by 1917 and seems to have spent much of her married life in an around Young, NSW before heading to Sydney where her husband died. She is living with 2 of her adult sons at 78 Shirley Road, Crows Nest from 1937-1954. Dying there in 1955.
I do not even know where Minnie Eliza was born. Have found George Gilbert at the South Brisbane cemetery age 81 dying 17 Dec 1906
I will scout around cyberspace for arrival in OZ and get back to you with any "finds"

Was trying to think outside the square about George Gilbert Edmonds (both in surname spelling terms and arrival dates etc). First up, have you seen this:
Sydney Morning Herald
Monday 19, 21(pg 7), 22 July 1856
TO BE SOLD by AUCTION, on TUESDAY the 22nd July, at 11 o'clock,
The Bowling Saloon, El Dorado, in Sussex-street, near Bathurst-street;
Or by Private Sale. Apply to GEORGE G. EDMONDS, on the premises
If it is your chap then he seems to be in Sydney by 1856. And it was the earliest listing in the newspapers of a George G Edmonds that I could find.
Then I thought ...... perhaps he came out for gold rush ..... to Victoria and then headed, disillusioned to Sydney. You might have the following information already but here it is anyway.
Unassisted & assosted passenger list to Victoria
Edmonds GEORGE age 26 Arr Victoria Oct 1852 Appolline. Fiche 014 Page 004. Book 7, Page 35 Also travelling with him was Anne(32) and James (4)
The Argus Fri 5 November 1852 "NOTICE Immigrant Ship Appoline, The following immigrants have been received into the married couple depot and will be open for engagement at 11 o'clock this day. EDWARD GRIMES Immigration Agent
Note: I have no idea what this means. Vessel listed variously as Appolline, Apolline, Appoline
George Edmunds age 18 Mar 1855 Caldera. Fiche 089 Page 002
Also onboard was a James (25) & William (35)
The Argus Thurs 7 March - Caldera, ship, 820 tons, SNH Clums from London 9 December. Passengers - cabin; Mr and Mrs Payne and family, Mr and Mrs Crickmer and child, Mr and Mrs Druce and two hundred and eight in the intermediate.
Note: boat then seems to have gone to Sydney
Geo Edmunds age 24 arr Dec 1854 Mobile Fiche 080 Page 007
The Argus Friday 8 December - The Mobile, Capt Ponsonby, belonging to Messrs Baines & Co. Black Ball line, went into the river on Friday for Melbourne, with 370 passengers and a cargo of valuable merchandise on freight. Amongst the passengers are two directors of the French company of mining engineers, accompanied by a number of workmen, and machines similar to those in the Ural mountains, for the cleansing of auriferous earths.
Note: boat came from Liverpool. After Melbourne was then heading for Bombay
And finally (after seeing all your postings out there in cyberspace) I found this interesting one. Interesting in lieu of information you had put somewhere (can't remember which forum) which talked about a brother in New Zealand:
(Also from Victorian passenger lists)
Mr G Edmunds age 26 Arr Apr 1853 Kirkwood Fiche 002 Page 001
The Empire Wednesday 27 Apr
MELBOURNE SHIPPING ...... Kirkwood, from Auckland with 18 passengers
Note: boat then headed back to Auckland
Maybe something in the above is helpful

Good morning Cocksie
Thank you for all of that research: You obviously like a tussle! I have been referred to some of the events previously but without much follow-on success.
I have not confirmed that it was my GreatGrandfather, George Gilbert EDMONDS who came out on the Hereford, the Appoline or the Caldera.
There have been suggestions that perhaps he came to Sydney in 1855 on the HMS JUNO. The HMS JUNO became the Government ship in Sydney.
As you say he was here in July 1856 and established the El Dorado Bowling Saloon in Sussex Street, which my son has researched.
George Gilbert EDMONDS was a builder and later a Contractor. He was married on the 16 Apr 1857 in St Mary's Roman Catholic Cathedral to Elizabeth Maria [Eliza] COTTRELL born 1837 in Ireland.
........
"Cottrell family arrived in Sydney on ship "CALCUTTA" 15 Oct 1838.
The ship had sailed from Cove of Cork on 29 June with 306 immigrants.
Description in NSW Shipping records -
Eliza Cottrell unmarried female immigrant. To the Government. Native of Cork.
Daughter of William Cottrell, an Attorney in Cork and Anne Williamson, his
wife. Comes under the protection of her brother {Richard}.
Straw bonnet maker 17 years of age on 4 June 1838 Catholic. Reads and writes."
............................
Apparently George Gilbert and Eliza EDMONDS and family moved to South Brisbane between 1860-1863 after the birth in Sydney of the first George Washington EDMONDS on 1 June 1860. He died in 1863 in Brisbane. My Grandfather was the [2nd] George Washington EDMONDS b 9 May 1865 Brisbane.
Their 13 children included Eliza Maria [Minnie] EDMONDS [4th] born 27 Jan 1864 in Brisbane. As I have it, Minnie [aka Kitty] nee EDMONDS married Frederick William Albert ROBERTS on 24 March 1867 at the Albert Street Wesleyan Church, Brisbane Certificate # B011338.
I will not venture into the Roman Catholic marriage of Elizabeth Maria [Eliza] nee COTTRELL and the Wesleyan marriages of her children, other than to mention that Elizabeth Maria [Eliza] nee Cottrell was buried on 27 November 1917 as a Protestant.
"QUOTE from your Posting -:

I have Elizabeth Maria [Eliza] [nee Cottrell] EDMONDS as living in Heaslop Street South Brisbane after George Gilbert EDMONDS passed away and dying some 11 years later in a house of her son's on 27 Nov 1917 also at Heaslop Street, South Brisbane. [possibly separate houses. Her son, successful in business but not in health, was Frank Thomas EDMONDS [1875-1916 Brisbane].
Now the NSW BDM / Ryerson Index etc.
"Minnie Eliza was a widow by 1917 and seems to have spent much of her married life in an around Young, NSW before heading to Sydney where her husband died. She is living with 2 of her adult sons at 78 Shirley Road, Crows Nest from 1937-1954. Dying there in 1955."
I have Eliza Maria [Minnie] EDMONDS nee Roberts b 1864 #B002680, Brisbane .
Well cocksie you have certainly done some research on my behalf: I hope that I have not confused you.
I have a copy of her husband's Will but that makes no mention of any Edmonds bar his wife. If you would like a copy I am happy to email it to you.
YES please! I would certainly like a copy of the Will

May I revert to my original Posting for more information on ROBERTS / HALLIDAY families, in an attempt to find in a 'private collection' information that is missing from official records [ie. Death Certificate], re George Gilbert EDMONDS' parents and birth etc.
George Gilbert and Elizabeth Maria [Eliza] EDMONDS and some members of their family are buried under a tall obelisk at the South Brisbane Cemetery.
I have a copy of her husband's Will but that makes no mention of any Edmonds bar his wife. If you would like a copy I am happy to email it to you.
Thank you

Hey, I am following up on my family history and have hit a bit of a lul... I am in search of an Arthur Sylvester Hoffman, who I believe is sometimes referred to as Arthur Sylvester Puckering or Puckeridge. I saw this thread and saw his name mentioned, I was wondering if anyone had any further information on him? :)
