Looking for information on Rea born in Londonderry, no idea where.
Marriage certificate
Thomas Rea born about 1861 father John Rea
I don't know what religion they were but not catholic, as we have been told Thomas converted to Catholic just to marry his wife Sarah Burns in Co Down.
Thomas was a labouer, but also know he worked on the dredgers, in both England and Ireland, Have letter of recomendation from Newry Canal dredger company.
If anyone has any information or conection however small please get in touch.

Hello Shirleyannmarie,
It may be difficult to get much more information about your Rea family as you have so few details about them. Knowing the county where the family lived is slightly better than only knowing that the family came from Ireland but a parish and townland would make a world of a difference particularly if you also knew which church the family attended.
You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Could you explain the connection with the Rea family of Londonderry so we can help you.
If there is no connection it might be better to ask a moderator to move the enquiry to the Cork board.

My great grandfather was Thomas Rea, who said he was born in derry, I only know his father's name was John from his marriage certificate, he was a master dregger, and met my great grandmother in Warrenpoint co down. This is all the information I have on him according to the census 1901 he was born 1861 in Derry.
Any help would be greatly appreciated I have attached the census incase his children's names are of family line.
Thank you

Thomas Rea indicates that he was born in Co Derry in 1901 census.

You may already have the census details but we haven't seen them previously which is why it's easier for us to help when we have as much information as possible. The 1911 census (thank you to Kiltaglassan for posting those links) say Thomas Rea was married 30 years (c1881) and was 56 years old (so born c1855 which is probably closer than 1901 census indicates). They also had 11 children (8 living) so more clues for you to follow up.
The first thing to do is locate a marriage record- should hopefully list the name and occupation of Thomas' father. The 1911 census gives an idea of the date and Since bride was born in Co. Down it probably took place in that area.
Sure enough- married was in Newry registration district but 1885- his father John Rea, a labourer (alive).

IF his father John was living in Co. Derry in 1885 this is possible death- John Wray, labourer, age 82 living in Ballywoodock-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1917/05204/4438389.pdf
Other John Rea/Wray deaths in Co.Derry are either for bachelors or they would be too young to be Thomas' father. It is, of course possible that Thomas' father died elsewhere.
Here's that John Rea in 1911-

Wife Rachel was alive in 1901-
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Londonderry/Benone/Woodtown/1523512/
Looking at those records it's not clear if that is Thomas' family.

Many thanks for this new information, been doing this since 2004, this was one of the first sites I joined. When I came to this brick wall I concentrated on other side of family , haven't used this site for many years I was very surprised to be contacted on here about this post after 17 years.
Thank you again I can now take another look at this family, and have some sites to check out.
