I transcribed a lot of birth, death and marriage records today in connection with a lot of Street families (including my own) from Ringwood. It covers say 1839-1960 - obviously nowhere complete, but please contact me if you think I might be able to help with any info.

Thanks for the message - this is strange. I visited the toy shop when I came down to Ringwood about 6 years ago - they were very coy indeeed and would not discuss their family history. I did howver find a relative in Ringwood named John Street - I don't kow his address but the house was across from a sort of large green area. I haven't been in touch with him since then.
Have you any connection with the Street family, or did you just spot my post.
Best wishes
Tony

Hi Tony
I don't have any connections with the Street family, but was just browsing through the Hampshire board when Ringwood jumped out at me ;)
The green area you are talking about maybe a place called The Bickerley, which is near the old railway line and the River Avon.
If you contact the Hampshire Family History Society there could be someone there who may have info on the Streets.
Cheers
Erika :)

I am interested in the Streets of Ringwood. Harriet Street b1812 to John Street and Rebecca French was my ggg grandmother. Do you have the marriage for brother John Street b1819 to a Mary ? about 1844, and William Street b1814 m Louisa Jenkins about 1834? Thanks for your time, Margaret.

Hi Mags
50% success.
I didn't go back as far as 1834, so can't help you with William Street and Louisa Jenkins, but I can with John Street and Mary.
Here is my transcribed entry.
Ringwood :- Marriages
18th May 1843 John Street of John and Mary Hickman of Thomas
Just not sure if you know but the "of" means son or daughter of.
Hope this helps you.

Hi Tony,
Thanks for info on John Street's marriage. If you are interested, I have Harriet Street's (b1812) marriage to Thomas Shearley (b1806) on 21 January 1833 in Ringwood. His death on 13 July 1836, Harriet's subsequent marriage to George Ballard (b1802) on 17 February 1841. Regards, Margaret.

I was just doing a search for a chap called john street after watchin TV a short while ago. Someone in the new forrest was telling the story about a murder at one of the gatehouses No 15) John street was either the one killed or the gate keeper for the railway crossing. I think he was actually the killer of the gate keeper. It was night time and hee was drunk and wanting to get home in a rush. When the keeper came to the door Street mangled him with a scythe, slicing him diagonally from cheek to pelvis...eeew! probably a red herring!

Just out of interest, I had a look in the "Ringwood Papers" booklet about the railway and "Crossing Lodge 15" seems to have been the one at Crow if it's of any use.Keepers are given as John Gale in 1851 and William Gates in 1881. :)

Good afternoon I am very interested in this thread as my maternal grandmother was a Street from Ringwood.
I think she was descended from a John Street (1821-1899) who married an "Ann" and had eight children (George b1844, Charles b1847, Henry b1851, Jane b1855, Alfred b1857, Eliza b1860, William b1863 and Emily b1865).
Henry Street (1851-1920) was my great great grandfather and he married Jane Tarrant and had ten children (Winifred b1871, Henry b1872, Rosaline b1874, Herbert b1877, Frederick b1879, Bessie b1882, Thomas b1883, Edith b1886, Louise b1888 and Ernest b1890)
Frederick Street (1879-1969) was the great grandfather and he married Beatrice Welch and had seven children (Frederick b1899, Lilian b1901, William b1903, Doris b1907, Albert b1913, Verdun b1916 and Gwen b1918)
It would be great to have independent confirmation of these lines.
It would also be great to make contact with other Street descendants.
Thanks in advance!
