My father lines all come from around the south Bucks area. I have also done a couple of other connected tree who like wise have many families from around this same area. More than willing to share any information. Have some parish records for Lane End, Cadmore End, Ipstone, Hughenden & Bledlow Ridge.
Some other of the many names I have are Hatt, Easden, Plumridge, Seymour, Oxlade, Carr, Druce.
Please feel free to ask for help even if name is not on list, or if you think you may have information on any mentioned. Thanks.

Hi Vita,
I am always on the look out for the surname FLORIDA first found in Radnage, Bucks in 1760, but any further finds would be most welcome. I am also on the look out for William and Elizabeth BRITTEN or descendants. They married in West Wycombe in 1827 and I cannot find hide nor hair of them after that - Elizabeth was a FLORIDA from Radnage,
All the best and thanks for looking,

Hello, the Snooper,
Sorry I do not have any Radnage or West Wycombe records, but I checked my others, and sorry but nothing for either Florida or Britten, including different ways to spell them.
The only nearest detail I could find were marriages in High Wycombe a Susanna Brittin in 1713, John Britton in 1764 & Sarah Britton 1771. I do not know if you records go back far enough to find any possible connection to your family?
I did also look on th BMD and found some death records for Brittens in Bucks but they was only William Britten born 1801, died in Aylesbury 1882, Jonathan Britton of Kensington, born 1793 died 1877 in Abingdon, Oxford & Sarah Britton born 1847 died 1866 Eton, Bucks.
On census I found a Charles Florida born about 1817, a chair maker born High Wycombe, but could not find him on the 1841 census to find out his family or if there was any connection to the area in or around Radnage.
So the Brittens & Floridas either emigrated, moved from the area and gave wrong place of birth, died, or possibly used another name, it does happen. Unless they moved from the area long enough before the 1841 that those born in Bucks had died.
William & Elizabeth, I also found no trace, I tried any possible mistakes in name, but nothing, so I can only assume they emigrated, changed name, gave wrong place of birth, or the most likely, both died before 1837.
Again sorry I was no help, regards Vita.

There was a chairmaker C S Florida recorded in Plymouth in 1866, 1871 and 1882. Also another chairmaker, James Britton, in Bath 1833, 1839 and 1844.
-
Thanks both for looking for Floridas and Brittens.
The C S Florida in Devon is one of the clan and I have further info on him. The Britten line is a real mystery - the William Britten born 1801 and died in Bucks in 1882 is possible I suppose but it would mean he married at 17years old and Elizabeth (FLORIDA) was 37 - quite an age gap.
Cheers

Hello again,
Sorry you put their marriage as 1827, so he would be 26, however that's a bit irrelevant as I cannot find him on the 1881 or 1871 census. Maybe they really did have a thing against their name, and used something else. If anything helpful does crop up, I will let you know.
-
Yes, thanks, I must have been having a senior moment he would have been 26/7 not 16/7 so could be him but, as you say, I have not been able to find them on any of the census records either. As you must have gathered they are not a direct line but of interest because I would like to find as many FLORIDA descendants as I can out of interest.
Cheers

Hi I am after any info on a Jabez Janes b 1821, he came out to Victoria Australia in the early 1850's and had 7 children with a Maria Ann Goldsmith then in the 1870's he disappeared, can anyone help please
-
Hello,
Sorry he is not one of my Janes, and cannot find him on 1881 or 1891 census, so if he did return to England, possibly he changed his name. I cannot find his application for a passport, to leave England, but the site I use does not cover 1850, but it does cover the rest of 1850's. I did find a Henry N Janes in 1856, I don't suppose that is helpful to you?
Regards Vita.

Thank you every much for trying to find him

I might have found a bit more on Jabez Janes family but no more on Jabez. I think his father was William Janes and his mother was Leah Parslow. There were 8 children, Alfred, Cornelius, Eliza, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Lydia & Mary Ann all born Loosley Row Princes Risborough Buckinghamshire. Does anyone have any info on the family? :) I wonder if anymore of the family came to Australia?

Hello again,
Did some more digging for you and found a little .
William & Leah Lived in loosley Row, Princes Risborough. William a Sawyer born around 1801 in Lacey Green & Leah a Lacemaker, around same time in Loosley Row.
Children with them-
Jonathan born 1828, Lydia 1832, Mary Ann 1835, Cornelius 1839.
1851 William & Leah also have 2 grandchildren with them- Celina Ridley born 1844 in Speen, & Amos Ridgley 1846 in Loosley Row. These are Elizabeth's children as she married Jesse Ridgley in 1843. No Jabez with them.
1871 William is a widower living with Henry James born around 1830, a grocer & Baker, & Henry's wife Mary, in Prices Risborough. Leah died 1870, William himself died 1872.
In 1841 there is a Henry James also at same address, Jabez born 1831, Ann 1833, Caroline 1836 all born & living in Lacey Green, with adults Wiliam & Sophia Janes both born around 1806, he in Lacey green Sophia in High Wycombe. 1841 census does not give relationship, although the most likely is that they are all their children. So do not know the relationship between Henry & your William, there are quite a few Janes families in that area, so they may well all be connected.
Cornelius as adult.
1871 & 1881 living in Loosley Row.
married 1863 to Ann Bagnall born 1843 in Princes Risborough. they had 5 children, Albert 1863, Ruth 1867, Frederick 1867, George 1871 & Harry 1873 all in loosley Row. Ann died in 1875.
Cornelius remarried 1878 to Sarah Langstone born 1847 loosley Row. Cannot find any trace of the family after 1881, so possibly they did emigrate.
Jonathan Janes as adult.
a sawyer married a Mary born 1829 in Haddenham, Aylesbury. The best match for a marriage is to a Mary Steel, but that is in 1853 Kensington, London.
Their children were Lucy 1858, Frances (female) 1860 & Hannah 1863 all born in Prince Risborough.
1871 they were living Grubbings, Lacey Green.
1881 Frances was a domestic servant, living in at Beech Grove, Tring, Hertfordshire, Hannah & Lucy untraced.
Frances then married Joshua Brackley in 1886 Wycome. Joshua born 1856 Buckland, Aylesbury. He was a grocer & carrier, although by 1911 just a carrier.
They had children Florence 1887 & Clara 1889, both born Buckland, Clara became a domestic servant. Then sons Alfred 1894 & Gordon 1998, also in Buckland & Alfred became a woodman.
1891 they lived the Grocers shop, Little Twye, Buckland, Aylesbury, 1901 & 1991 living Buckland Common.
they als0 had Joshus Niece Annie Brackley & Nephew William Brackley, living with them.
Hope this helps.

Hello Debbie & Vita,
Sorry to throw a spanner in the works but I don't think your Jabez is the one who was the son of William Janes and Leah Parslow.
I'm distantly related to this family through the Parslow connection and the info I've got on Jabez is that he married Elizabeth Ward in Princes Riborough on 9/12/1843. Elizabeth died and he then married Ann Biggs on 24/12/1848. I found both these marriages in the Princes Risborough parish records.
Jabez and Ann had four children and can be found on all the census records from 1851 to 1881, although sometimes mistranscribed.

I've been having another look at the census records for the Princes Risborough area and have found another Jabez Janes. This one was born c. 1831 and was the son of William and Sophia. William Janes and Sophia Chilton were married in Princes Risborough on 6/6/1827.
Do you think this might possibly be the one you are looking for?

Dear Debbie,
The Jabez born 1831 was a Sawyer, in1859 he married Ellen Cartwright, daughter of John & Maria.
Ellen was born in Little Hampden.
Now I can find no trace of Jabez, Ellen or her parents in 1861, but can trace them all on both the 1851 & 1871 census. However Jabez must of been around in 1859 if he married in 1859, so unless he went back and forth to Australia, (and considering how long the journey took back then, it is unlikely), it does not look like he is the right one either. So the mystery thickens, as to who the parents were of this Jabez Janes that went to Australia were. Do you know for sure his place of birth?
-
Dear Jane & Vita, thanks for all your information, this gets more & more complicated. I have contacted another family member & she is pretty sure Jabez was born in 1821 or 1822. If she is right he doesnt match any of them. I am still going to try and follow up your leads in case my relative is wrong. Thanks again Deb
-
Now someone is saying Jabez may have been born in Hampshire, is this close to Buckinghamshire? I am not sure as living in Australia it is hard to tell how close these shires are to each other.
-
Hi,
Boundaries have changed a bit parts of Berkshire & Oxfordshire have at times been in and out of Bucks, but Hampshire and Bucks do not touch, so it very unlikely to mix up these counties. However I can find No Jabez James on the 1841 census in Hampshire, there is on on the 1851 born Hampshire and married to a Maria, could not find him in 1861/71/81. His birth place looks like Bormois, Hampshire, but I have never heard of it, and if it did exist, it does not now, possibly it was misheard by the census taker.
Love Vita.

Thank you very much :)

My Ggg Grandmother was Hannah Plumridge, born 5/5/1839 in East Burnham, i have them back to 1790 so far.
-
Well now I am intrigued - my name is Sarah Langstone (from my father's side) but on my mother's side is a Jabez... I don't have the family tree in front of me right now- maybe it is nothing to do with any of these enquiries. I know that the Langstone side came from Buckinghamshire and that my grandfather or great-grandfather was the result of a union (unmarried) between a Langstone lady and a Sandeman (the Port people). If this is likely to be any use to anyone, I can dig out the information... both sides of the family are originally from Scotland.
My grandmother told me of relatives who had gone out to Australia.

Hi Sarah, that would be fantastic!!!. Jabez Janes has always been the mystery in the family. Anything would be greatly appreciated :) ;D Thanks Deb
