In the 1871 census, I have four children being in the Childrens Establishment of the Union, Middx (Enfield Workhouse, Chase side, Enfield).

Would there be any records for this time and where would they be please?

 Many thanks

 Carol

The old Enfield parish workhouse at Chase Side was taken over by the Edmonton Union for use as a school.
It looks as though there aren't any surviving records for the time period you're interested in, but you might try asking the LMA whether they hold any poor law/board of guardians records for Edmonton district that might be relevant.

Thank you Jorose, I'll try asking LMA about poor law/board of guardians records as you suggest.

 Thanks  Carol

 Hi Carol

Did you have any success with this record?

I have 2 of my ancestors in that Census at that place too (William & Joseph Higginbotham).

Was there any information about the children that helped you with further research?

I hope to be visiting London next August (2014) and will visit LMA.

 TIA

 Hello Reggie

It was a long time ago that I was enquiring about Edmonton Workhouse. I didn't manage to visit L.M.A. at the time and still haven't.
Soon after my request I was diagnosed with the Big C, then my mum died 2011 and the Big C returned in 2012. so, I haven't had any success with LMA, although I would still like to know if my family are mentioned in the records.
I hope you enjoy your visit to England next year and that you are successful in your research.

 Best wishes

 Hi Carol

Thanks for getting back to me.  I am deeply sorry for your health and the loss of your mother. I had a sister with the big C .

While I am in London I do hope to visit the LMA. My wife is not interested in Genealogy so I will only invest a short period at the LMA. Hopefully enough to do a little research.

 Hi Reggie

Don't forget, if you have time to visit The National Archives at Kew, Surrey.
If your wife doesn't want to visit, she can always go to Kew Gardens a short distance away.

Do let me know how you fair at LMA.

 Best wishes
