Title: White Lee Clough
Post by: waterking on Monday 18 January 10 17:32 GMT (UK)
Does anyone know where exactly White Lee Clough, Wadsworth near Halifax is? Ive searched maps but I can't make out where I should be looking. Researching the PATCHETT family who lived in White Lee Clough in 1841 and 1851. Especially Abraham Patchett who married Betty Tattersall 1847 in Bacup, Lancs.

Yes, thanks. Ive found Mytholmroyd (south of Hebden Bridge) but not Wadsworth. Is this part of Halifax or futher west, towards the border with Lancashire?

Go to www.mytholmroydwalkers.org and look for the Scout Rock Walk.  The map will take you to White Lee Bridge.  A clough is a narrow little gourge so this will be the bridge over it. (or follow pictures for Scout Rock Walk and its right at the bottom)

Excellent, regarding map....thank you. I managed to get in touch with the Hebden Bridge group as was searching my x5 great grandad and they believe ( from looking on census) that he probably lived at the inn once known as the Huntsman ( now private house) ....almost aside White Lee Clough but probably back in 1828 very little residence in the area...so many folk would have used White Lee Clough as an address as were known by name rather than residence?! This gentleman was George Pickles, mother was Ann ( father unknown) , Ann's parents & grand parents before her now found too. so am very happy. I had a wander round the area about a year back....beautiful place as is Midgeley if i remember rightly.
I will save the map if ok by you. Thanks again.
