Title: Traction Engine at Harmston Lincs
Post by: Louthlass on Sunday 17 January 10 16:55 GMT (UK)
In circa 1906 a traction engine ran out of control down a hill in Harmston, my great Grandfather was presented with a silver cup for stopping this engine, his name was Joseph Priestley, does anyone know if there is a newspaper report or any further info on this subject please.

The date might well be on the cup! If you are in Lincolnshire or within range I would suggest take what you have to your local reference library, and see what they have around that date. In the early 20th century newspapers were the only printed source of information so bound to have been reported at the very least in local papers.

 Hello Scopwick boy,

It was an impressive cup he was presented with, about ten inches high, solid silver, unfortunately the where abouts is now not known.
I have seen the hill and always wondered at the details of this event.
