Hello All,
I recall being told that some of the Parish Registers from Riseley were missing. I think the years involved were around the late 1670's. Does anyone know if these have reappeared?
Cheers,
Bob

According to the film notes on the LDS site 1673-82 are missing although 1675 and 1677 are on the BTs.
You'd need to ask BLARS if the missing years are now available - I doubt it

Thanks David,
I'll give them a call

These notes are from Riseley PR transcript that starts from 1602
The Register is contained in following volumes
Baptisms/Marriages/Burials
vol 1 1626-1672
vol 2 1683-1746
Bishop Transcripts then supply entries missing from the registers for...
1602-1611, 1613-1625, 1675, 1677
Therefore no records exist for 1612, 1673-1674, 1676, 1678-1682

Thanks John,
It's as I feared!

Hi
Just to let you know I'm in contact with the descendants of Gladys Armstrong - I married into a distantly related branch of the same Devereux family, which I have researched over 15 yrs in England, India Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and back to their Viking origins.
If you would like further info on the Armstrong-Devereux link, please let me know!

Hello Isabelle & welcome to the family!
I'm in regular touch with one of the NZ branch (from the same Beds roots). I sent him our tree some time ago, which covers 1701 to the early 1900's.
Sadly, there has been a lot of erroneous info scattered about the internet re our Armstrong family. The truth is that the link pre the 1680's back to Scotland/Ireland/Borders isn't provable, on paper, for our Beds lot. Also, the Siward-Armstrong progenitor theory is almost certainly myth/legend. Siward's son died with no proven male heir. A number of us have been researching the various theories over 30 years & most hit a brick wall. I've studied the first recorded Armstrong in the country, namely Adam Armstrang (sic) who appears in the Wetheral & Lanercost Cartularies in Cumbria in the early 1200s. The family were of knightly status. They were Verderers - highly important posts in that period.
I believe I know how they came to be in Roxburghshire in the 1300's.
I'm involved in YDNA testing to eventually find the truth. We match to people with Canonbie, Dumfriesshire roots.
Lovely to hear from you.
Cheers, Bob

Hi Bob
Thanks for the welcome.
Please can you point me in the right direction to find out how to set up a DNA project - I'm in contact with the historic Devereux family so we may be able to identify whether there is a link.
I'd also be grateful if you can put me in touch with your Armstrong contact in NZ - somehow!
I tried to reply to your personal message to give you my email address but can't find the "new msg" icon - despite the instructions on site!! Perhaps my oldish Mac that's the problem....

It's not your old mac. You can only use the personal message facility once you've made three posts.
So if you reply "Thank you David" you'll then be able to send Bob a personal message!

Thank you for your help!

Hello Isabelle,
I didn't receive your e-mail info, but not important. Dial up the following on Google:
FTDNA Surname projects
then dial in the surname you require, eg Devereaux. Bear in mind that you need a male to test of that surname for Y-DNA tests. I recommend 37 markers as the minimum
There is a group for the surname Devereaux you are interested in, so that will keep the cost down! Y-DNA only applies to father-to-son relationships, as you are probably aware. Mother-to-mother is covered by mtDNA.
Happy hunting,
Bob

Thanks Bob, I sent the email a few minutes ago with a chart attached which I am also sending to the NZ Armstrong-Devereux family - if they agree I shall send you contact info for them.

Isabelle
