Title: Scotland and Huguenot Refugees
Post by: Cromarty on Saturday 16 January 10 02:20 GMT (UK)
Hullo out there!

I am trying to establish if and when there were Huguenot refugees who came to Scotland, particularly to the Black Isle area.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can start my research?

Thank you.

Hi Cromarty  :)

While not an expert, I found this link (it's a PDF) from the Huguenot Society, listing known Huguenot settlements outside London - seems there was a small community in Edinburgh at one time.

Hope that might help somewhat  :)

Cheers

Hi Prue,  :)

Thanks for the suggestion.  I will try to have a look at the relevant reference.

Hi Cromarty

This probably won't help but there were alot of French in the Black Isle during the
Auld Alliance and also some in Cromwell's army which definitely got as far as Inverness.
Some stayed behind and intermarried with the local populace.
