Title: Street family of Ringwood
Post by: coffindodger on Wednesday 13 January 10 11:31 GMT (UK)
I am looking to check that the record I have for this family is correct.

I am looking to check the children of Thomas Street and Emily Lea Witt.  He was born 1824/1825.

My records show them as having eight children, but would like to confirm this with names and birthdates.

Many thanks

The only way to that is to buy the certificate. Do you have a problem in looking up the record of birth from the GRO? The local library can help with this or an LDS study centre, BMD in conjunction with the census.  Sometimes the baptism shows the date of birth, and baptisms are sometimes on IGI (in your case I have looked and that's a problem), or otherwise on parish record for the church, which are at the County Archives, or sometimes in a local library, say Winchester, Southampton or maybe Bournemouth.

You could do this yourself, or employ a researcher, or maybe someone would offer to do it for you.

Many thanks for your reply. I perhaps didn't word it  too well when I did the post. Christenings (baptisms) are fine, but someone has sent me some info recently with just throws a little doubt on my tree, and I was wondering if there was anybody out there researching the same family.

It may well be that I shall only sort this out by going down to Winchester, but I may get some answers this way. There were quite a few Street families around at this time and several children had the same names.

Thanks again

Tony

You can gain info about this family from the census information. They are on the 1851 and the 1871 in Hampshire, but I couldn't find them on the 1861. Some of the children are Alfred born 1850/Thomas 1851/Arthur 1854/Ann 1857 and Samuel 1860.
regards.

There is a family tree on A******Y, for a Thomas Street who marries an Emily Witt, with a son Alfred born 1850, but I am sure that I saw an Alfred born 1849 on Free BMD, which would link up with census of 1851, is that yours.

Tom

 Many thanks for the digging.

The tree on ancestry is probably mine, but I haven't double checked.

The real problem is this.

I have only traced my direct ancestors really, although I have the greatest admiration for the people who say they have 17,000 people in their tree - must be a labour of love.

Research obviously throws up brothers and sisters when you aren't actually looking for them and thats what happened here.

I have a lot of brick holes in my research, so I decided to go back and fill in as much as I can from Thomas Street's marriage to Emily Lea Witt onwards.

My direct ancestor is Arthur christened 1854 and I have as much info on his line as I think I am going to find.  There is a similar picture with his brother Samuel born 2nd April, 1861 - I obtained that from one of his direct descendan ts. That leaves six other brothers and sisters as far as I know.
Fred was born in 1863 and died almost immediately. Thomas born 1851 I know a little about - he married Annie Pope - a real criminal he, finally died in Winchester prison during  a 6 months hard labour sentence for an aggravated assault offence on his wife. Alfred (1849) I know nothing at all about except he might have married someone called Ellen. Ann 1858 is supposed to have married someone called Samuel Emlyn Jones. There is Emily c 1856 and Alice Elizabeth who I know nothing about at all and that makes the 8. I am going to have a concerted effort with the census, and I may have to go down to Winchester to sort it. I am just trying a few short cuts first.

Many thanks

Just forgot to say the family are in 1861 in Ringwood but Thomas is not there. Head of the house is Emily although it doesn't say that.  I think probably he was there and has not been tranbscribed.

I've just found out one of my distant relatives  Jessie Frances Lillian Walker b 1900 London married Reginald Alfred Street b 1891 son of Alfred Street b 1851 in Ringwood and Ellen Elizabeth (no maiden name) b c1860 at Notts East Retford.

They married at N. Forest Hamps 1st qtr 1933.  Found no children.

Reginald Alfred b 1891 had siblings Charles R 1895, Arthur H 1897 and Christie Ivor b 1900.

Hope this helps

I have some information on Ann STREET 1857-1920, she married Samuel Emlyn Jones. They had six children. She ran the Willington Post Office, Kelsall, Cheshire in 1911 and died in 1920. She is buried at St Philip's Church, Kelsall, Cheshire. I should have more for you if you are keen.

Hi David

Many thanks - yes any info gratefully received. Ann Street was my great grandfathers sister.
I had come across the name of Samuel Emlyn Jones before but can't remember exactly where.

I have tended to cocentrate on direct ancestors, but am now starting to extend the tree so any info on her you have would be very helpful.

Regards

Tony

Here is a photo of Ann Street 1857-1920. You appear to be a 3rd cousin to David Jones of Willington Cheshire whom I'm building a tree for.  Ann is his Great Grandmother.

Not going back in time, but recently Streets Toy Shop closed which was sad.
