Title: Marriage Recording ~1800..part 2
Post by: Noreen19 on Saturday 09 January 10 20:55 GMT (UK)
Sorry Listers..I hit the wrong key and sent the message before finishing it.

The Stracathro OPR lists the birth of  4 "lawful sons"  to James MITCHELL and Mary DUNCAN, beginning in 1808 and ending in 1817.  I cannot find the marriage of the parents, however, using a broad search of Scotland counties.

Is it possible that the some marriages were not recorded? OR..that they were married in a church not covered by the OPRs?

Regards,
Noreen

Yes, it is very likely that the record of the marriage has not survived. Both of these cases are very common.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I am going to rent the film for the Kirk Session records and perhaps there will be a clue to the marriage that I can use to proceed. I am hoping that there may also be records for  Non-Conformist churches in the Stracathro area around 1800.

Again, many thanks!
