Thankyou.

Go to www.iomfhs.im Look for RESEARCH top right hand of home page
Burials Does not seem to be buried here.
-
Well this is a mystery as I have him buried in the Isle of Man, death Aug 1918. Oh dear, now to find the correct information.
-
Frances, thank you for that site. I have a photo taken at Tholt y will.
I now might be able to better identify people, because of the dates.

Looking at the photo again, there is a number on the print.
It is 2150. Does this number have any significance?
Are there still records which could pinpoint a date?
Kooky
Sorry! The photographer was Arthur Hadley of Ramsey.
The no. seems to be a negative number.
-
Sorry kooky who are you talking to me or frances?? I had no photos to view.
-
I was replying to Frances, who gave me a useful website earlier in this post!

suggest 1921 as he seems to apply the same numbering technique to those I do have reasonably secure dates for - this period probably a charabanc - if you get to Manx Museum they have list of licence plate issue dates (try library@mnh.gov.im) but I suspect they will suggest employing an on Island researcher.
There is no other dating mechanism that I know of
-
Thank you Frances. 1921 seems to be about the right time.

have just been re reading the history for James and I have got written down he died on the 11 Aug 1918 aged 80. BURIED in Douglas, Isle of Man. I have no idea who gave this to me or a date. As I have gotten on in this lineage I have learnt to write dates and the resource received from.

No Brutons buried in IOM at all in the available index. You could check for a death cert. for 11th
Aug. 1918 : it was possible for a coffin to be transported on the ferry to UK for burial there. No
cremations in IOM at that time.
-
Oh thankyou!! Will check into that. How odd then, wonder were I got that info from.
-
well you are correct he is buried in douglas he was aged 80, 1918 and it is volume A - page number 1818
-
As far as I know he is buried in Braddan New yard - James Edward Bruton age 80 11 Aug 1918 - should be in the index quoted above - see http://www.manxnotebook.com/gazateer/gyards/cems.htm
-
Is this not a Death Cert. ref. as I have already explained ????
-
now I'm confused (very easily done) - to quote Voirrey "No Brutons buried in IOM at all in the available index. " - must admit I didn't check this at time - I agree this is not a death cert (this should be ordered from Gen Registry and should give cause of death, informant etc assuming death was also on Island) - the entry is quoted from my own copy of Brian Lawson's burial index (I havn't noted that this is a correction which I have to quite a number of index entries so I assume as initially published)
-
I dont know how far you have got with him but here is a link that may be of interest

Hi Kerbab
He is definately buried in the IOM. The link below has a list of burials. The transcriber has grouped them and BRUTON has been included after BURTON & BURTONWOOD The code beside his name is BRA which I'm guessing stands for KIRK BRADDAN New Cemetery.

Andy and Voirrey thankyou so much!!! It gives me warm fuzzies when peeps can find family across the seas (Im in NZ)....it must be a women thing but I just have to know where this wonderful man was buried. I have had a lovely letter from the Arts Musuem in South Africa about James and all the history he captured. I love photography myself so maybe it in my 'genes'.
I appreciate this information. Many thanks ♥
-
Oh I have just reread and seen the late Brian Lawson. He was a man I was in contact with right at the beginning of my searchng some 8 years ago. May he RIP.
-
Kerbab It may be possible to get you a photo of the headstone. A keen photographer who lives close
by regularly visits Braddan. Mind you it's winter here at present ! Voirrey

That would be fantabulous!! If there is anything I could do for you here in NZ, let me now!!
