Hi
My grand dad Edward Rooney born 1905/06 born in Inner City Dublin. Need to find the names of his parents . He was born about 20 april 1905/06 died 17/12/1987 buried in Palmerstown graveyard. Was originally was North King Street, Dublin City, moved to Drimnagh. Married Maggie Gorman (maiden name) , marriage name Maggie Rooney. Edward Rooney was a labourer in Hammond Lane Foundary. Think he was baptised in St Michan's. I have all details of his sons and daughters. His sisters and brothers are as follow Dinah, Teresa, Joe, Charlie, Paddy, Freddie (Frederick), Christy.
Hopefully somebody can help

the place to start is the 1911 census at http://census.nationalarchives.ie/
After that you could try searching the Familysearch Irish Civil Index (http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#c=1408347;p=2;t=searchable) If you find promising matches you can order certs from the GRO (http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm) to check details of parents.

I have check census but I need his parents names to go any further with any kind of search
-
then your first step is to try and find his marriage details - a cert for that will show his, and his brides, father's names & occupations.
You can search the Civil index for possible marriages matches, and then check for corresponding index matches for Maggie. If the year/quarter, registration district, volume & page are the same then youhave a possible match.
Do you have any idea when he married ?

there only seems to be one Edward Rooney in Dublin City of about the right age - might be worth investigating : Rooney family - Chancery St. (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Inns_Quay/Chancery_St_/34030/) He is age 5 and living with his Widowed mother Esther, sister and two brothers. Some of the names match up with the siblings you know of ... but not all.
had a look for the marriage on the civil index - and there's a promising match in the July quarter of 1932 :
Name: Edward Rooney
Registration district: Dublin North
Record type: Marriage
quarter and year: Jul - Sep 1932
Volume: 2 / Page: 312
Name: Margaret Gorman
[same index details]

Thanks Shane for your help
Not too sure whether the 1st reply went on here.
I think the marriage record for Margaret Rooney nee Gorman and Edward Rooney could be right one.
They were married in the 1930's. It was Margaret's 2nd marriage as her first husband died. Her first husband's name was O'Connor and they had a son Michael O'Connor .
As for the record in Chancery Street I have already had a look at this and I do not think it is the right one as there are a lot of siblings missing and she is a widow.

Hi
I have found possible matches for Edward and Margarets marriage found them on
the family search pilot as most of ye have suggested
1. Edward Rooney 1932 Jul-Sept Vol 2 Page 312
2. Margaret Gorman 1932 Jul-Sept Vol 2 Page 312
3. Margaret O'Connor 1932 Jul-Sept Vol 2 Page 312
To order marriage cert must I have year, quarter, Vol No. and Page No.
Do I need Film Digital and Image numbers?
And will marriage cert have Edwards parents on it?
Where is the best place to order this cert from in Ireland.
Regards

..To order marriage cert must I have year, quarter, Vol No. and Page No.Do I need Film Digital and Image numbers?
not required by the GRO - these are LDS references
the registration district is also required
..And will marriage cert have Edwards parents on it?
marriage cert will have father's names and occupations for both bride and groom
..Where is the best place to order this cert from in Ireland ?...
the only place to order certs is from the GRO (see link given earlier)

just noticed that you found a second Margaret marrying on the same register page... I wonder do both those index records refer to the same marriage and are based on Margarets maiden and first marriage surname ?
When you order the cert it's probably best to order using just Edwards name, seeing this is the one you are certain of.

All born to Charles Clifford and Rose or Roseanna Hoey. The couple must have married in about 1845 perhaps a year earlier.
