I'm tracing the Hobbs family of Littleton, West Lavington (probably linked to those of Market Lavington).
I've traced back from 1922 when my Grandmother (Delicia Gertrude Hobbs
B. 1900) married Albert John Richardson (Abbots Ann parish, Hampshire).
So far I've got back to Seymour (or Seymor as it is on the B. certificate but not the entry) B.1842.
His parents were William and Ann (née Wilkins) of Littleton, West Lavington.
Census records reveal William and Ann being borne circa 1811.
At this point I can go no further back, and living 300 miles away can't consult records directly.
I noted an old thread concerning the Hobbs family (Market Lavington) and wonder if anyone can help me get further back with my search.
Names and dates would be very useful, occupation and military service etc would really add colour.
Thank you :)

Wonderful, I really appreciate the information.
Seymour's birth certificate arrived today and his DoB is 29/6/1842, Littleton.
You've also added John to my list and confirmed which of the 2 Georges belongs to this branch of the family (there were 2 registered for this area, one in the June quarter and the other in December).
Many thanks

Hi
There are Hobbs buried in Market Lavington churchyard and the cemetery in the village as well. I have recorded some on my website at http://www.lavington.site90.com/lavington/index.html. I have records for Market lavington where we have a village museum of which I am the hon curator. sadly, we don't cover West Lavington.
We have numerous photos etc concerning members of the Hobbs family in the museum. If you want further information then do contact me - there'll be an email address on the above website.
Cheers

Hello
Still trying to get back in time but no matter which route I take I just can't find Littleton or West Lavington records.
I've tried Findmypast and IGI, generally with little luck.
I'm obviously missing something here as I can't find anything to match up the information supplied by the experienced researchers who previously supplied information so quickly.
I have to be looking in the wrong places. What am I missing?
What source produces information so promptly?

Using Family Search click on Search Records and then Advanced Search. On the left hand side click on International Genealogical Index. In the Region field select British Isles, for Country select England and for County select Wiltshire.
If you know the name of the person you are looking for insert their name (and a date and event if required).
If you are looking for possible children of known parents leave the first name and last name blank and enter the father's and mother's names in the relevant fields.
Further guidance is available by clicking on 'Tips on How to Search the International Genealogical Index'.
If you wish to look at extracted records in the IGI by parish the attached link may be helpful:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyWiltshire.htm
Bear in mind there is a lot of material that is not in the IGI or available on the Internet!

Thank you for leading me through that one.
I guess being used to searching BMD's back to 1837 I thought this phase would be similar. Hopefully now I have a start point it will get easier.
Many thanks

Just a quick update.
My branch of the Hobbs's appear to have moved from Market Lavington some time before 16 DEC 1762 .
On this date Peter married Sarah Clifford (also of Market Lavington) at West Lavington
Thankyou to all who helped me through the learning stages of this pre 1837 search.
