Title: Emmigrant - Roland SCOTT
Post by: MissKaty on Wednesday 06 January 10 15:12 GMT (UK)
Can anyone help me find out if Roland Scott boarded his ship to Australia with any wife or family or did he marry in Australia ? Roland was born in 1907 with his Twin Ada Kathleen Scott around East Riding. He emigrated to Australia in 1949 and his Family still live there.

Thanks
Katy

Hi Katy,

What state in Australia did he emigrate to & die in?

You say he has family still living here, are you in contact with them at all?

There is this birth in NSW :-\

Birth
30683/1905
SCOTT Roland
Father Robert  Mother Bessie
District  Albury

Australian Electoral Rolls
1954
NSW
SCOTT Gwendoline Mabel  343 Ernest Street, North Sydney  Home duties
SCOTT Roland  343 Ernest Street, North Sydney  Shopkeeper

1954
Victoria
SCOTT Edith  Leura Street, Camperdown  Home duties
SCOTT Roland Leura Street, Camperdown  Manager

There is another Roland SCOTT enrolled in 1954 in Victoria but this person is also enrolled in 1930 as the same address as a Robert SCOTT.  Perhaps he is the 1984 death in Victoria.

Hi,
Roland Scott born 1905 in Albury gives his NOK as Edith in his WW2 files at the National Archives this would seem to  match him with the couple in 1954 in Camperdown Victoria.

Perhaps he is the 1984 death but the mothers names don't seem to agree.

Quote
Birth30683/1905
SCOTT Roland
Father Robert  Mother Bessie District  Albury
and
Quote
SCOTT Roland
Father Robert  Mother Isabella Lawson
At Fitzroy  78 years  1984  Reg#10301

modified to add

Robert Henry Scott b Nth MELB m Isabella Golding 1908  #9577  (possible but surname is different)

Robert William Scott b ELAINE m Bessie Robinson in 1906  #5068

So two different families it would seem and both were born in Australia

The only Roland Scott marriages in NSW and Victoria are prior to 1941

regards

Robyn

I apologise MissKaty as we are going off at tangents but are trying to eliminate the Roland SCOTT's on the indexes.

It really has nothing to do with the original request but I think there has been some confusion with the parents of the Roland SCOTT who died in 1984.    I think the wrong mother has been listed as look at this birth, probably of Robert his father.

SCOTT Robert
Father Robert  Mother Isabella Lawson MACKIE
At Boroondara  1867  Reg#22223

Deaths
SCOTT Robert
Father Scott Robert  Mother Isabel Lawson Machie  MACKIE
At Caulfield   81 years 1948  Reg#2544

SCOTT Isabella Lawson
Father Mackie Alex  Mother Elizabeth LAWSON
78 years  at Chiltern  1906  Reg#4874

Isabella Lawson SCOTT could not be the mother of Roland b.c1906.  Probably his grandmother.

MissKay there is a facility to request a lookup of the Roland SCOTT death in Sydney in 1993 on the home page of the Ryerson Index.  The link given by Sue.  Either a copy of the notice or a transcript is emailed to you.  All lookups done by volunteers.

Hopefully it may be the Roland SCOTT  you are seeking.

Cheers
Cando

That's OK...we were really trying to eliminate the  ones on the indexes.  I would suggest you request a copy of the 1993 death notice from the Ryerson Index.  Seems to be the only lead at this stage ;D

Re the NSW Electoral Roll details given by Cando:

Australian Electoral Rolls
1954
NSW
SCOTT Gwendoline Mabel  343 Ernest Street, North Sydney  Home duties
SCOTT Roland  343 Ernest Street, North Sydney  Shopkeeper

There was a marriage in the June Qtr 1930, district Leeds South, between a Roland SCOTT, and Gwendoline M. ATKINSON http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

There are lots of births registered after 1930 for the surname SCOTT with mother's surname as ATKINSON, but only one also registered at Leeds South - Sep Qtr 1931, Brian SCOTT.

The Roland SCOTT died Victoria, 1984 has the following mentions in the death notices of The Sun (Melbourne paper)

May 12, 1984
SCOTT Roland (Bob), husband of late Edith, father of Joan (Mrs Morris0 and Pat (Mrs Gorrill, f-i-law of Max and Graham, grandfather and great grandfather.

May 14, 1984
SCOTT Roland (Bob) from the Ashburton and District Senior Citizens Club

SMH notice, 24 May 1993  (from the Ryerson Index)
SCOTT, Roland, May 20, 1993, late of Wyoming and Oatlands, husband of Gwen, father and f-i-law of Brian and Denny, grandfather of David, Brad, Nick, and Anne, loved pop of their families.  Private cremation.

Unfortunately the notices for both of these don't give an age so not much help for you!

Hi,
It seems, by the obituary for the man in NSW Judith has so kindly provided, that there was only one child to the couple GWEN and ROLAND.

A search of the NSW BDM index will show some information on the 2 people to whom he was father and father -in law.

It seems that the girl grandchild of this ROLAND was named ANNE and I do note this was the name of ROLAND's mother provided by Miss Katy.
