Would anyone have records from goldenbridge industrial school? I've requested information from the mercy sisters archivist but been waiting a very long time for a reply. My great grandmother Ellen Dempsey b 1886, may have entered goldenbridge age 5 after her mother died until school leaving age. It's been impossible to find her birth registered so hoping the golden bridge records highlight some further clues. I believe she then went to work at georges hill convent. I found her in the 1911 census married one year.

Hi, Try Bernardo's. I think that's the way its spelt. There up at Christ Church. They should be able to point you in the right direction, Lets know how you get on.

Please don't go bothering Barnardo's, a reputable British Charity founded by a Jewish Dubliner.
You are on the right path.
Insist to the people who hold the records that they release the records you need.
The Irish Independent has reported on this issue at length. See here for links:

Great news. I'm glad to hear that the promises of honesty and openness were not just another part of the cover-up.
Your news has cheered me up no end.

I was looking for information on a lady who married in the convent chapel in 1923 when she was 7 months pregnant and found I got a speedy but uninformative reply. I was told that they had records for the children held in the orphanage but not for the women who were there!
