Do you have him on 1841 census?

What were the names of his children in birth order?

When/where did his wife die?

Welcome to Rootschat.

Thomas Brown m Jane Mearns
Barony   9 May 1830

Scottish death certificates after 1854 almost always give details of a person's parents if you want to know more about Jane; they are available online at ScotlandsPeople for a small cost.
