Hello.
Some time ago i started Family Tree for my Son-In-Law and have made good progress on one side of the Family, but as usual with Family History come to a Grinding halt on the other.
My sticking point is-James William May born about 1880 i believe in Hampshire. On the Son`s Marriage Cert he was a Retired Stoker(Corporation). He was also a witness to the Marriage.
I have tried all the BMD`s including 1911 census and cannot find anything.
In 1932 his Son lived in Union St,Portsmouth.
Any help or Guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Regards Bob.

Hi
Have you tried the 1881 census which is free at www.familysearch.org
On the Son`s Marriage Cert
Do you have a copy of the son's birth cert showing both parents names and mothers maiden name as this will help find a marriage
Was the son born before the 1911 census? If so - who was he living with at that time.
You may have the wrong birthplace for James William

Using the free 1901 index the only James May with a similar occupation was living in Blackburn but was b Ireland 1878 - Stoker At Gas Works

I have May (O'May) in my family tree, they lived in Scotland but their origins were Ireland.
You will find more May, Mays, Maize, Maze or O'May in Scotland AND Ireland than anywhere else. I would suggest you check out Lanarkshire and Renfrew, Argyll which is where my grgrgrandmother Janet O'May was born of irish parents. William O'May and Margaret Milloy
