Hopefully, someone can look up Measham marriages: William Dennis to Mary Bonsor 14 May 1775. I am particularly interested in William's father and witnesses. Any help much appreciated. D

Ah the elusive Dennis clan!!
The are no witnesses mentioned on the parish records for this marriage.
William's parents were probably Henry Dennis and Sarah Burn (Bourne).
Henry's parents were John Dennis and Eleanor Dodge
Most of the Dennis clan seem to go back to Thomas Dennis c1660 and his wife Mary. As the same christian names appear several times with each generation they are a "little difficult to sort out".
There are Family group records on IGI which may help, a lot are extracted records, but with the help of another rootschatter I have managed to confirm some, so if there's anything I can help with please ask.

Thanks for your help. I think I've gone about as far as I can go with this link. As I understand it Henry Dennis and Sarah Burn had two children baptised on 4 August 1754: Thomas and one unnamed, who was presumably the weaker of twins and thought unlikely to survive. One did die in his first year and the surviving child was named William, who turned out to be my 4x gt grandfather. I think Henry's parents were John and Dorothy (and hence Thomas 1660) and Henry's brother John married Eleanor Dodge.
The name Burn is sometimes spellt Bourn(e), which has a more English Midlands ring, but the derivation appears the same and, bearing in mind the influence of the Danelaw in earlier times, I wonder if the scribes were responding to a more northern pronunciation.
Happy New Year!

hi there,
I think its safe to assume that it was Thomas who died, as in 1757 another son Thomas is baptised at Measham he went on to marry Ann Percival. They are my 4xgt grandparents.
Hope you have a happy New Year too!

Hi,
Regarding the Dennis family; I have an Ellen Dennis in my tree born 1797ish Leicestershire, married to William Bonsor. Surely this line must be connected to your searches. I would be very grateful if you could supply any info on Ellen as she is proving stubborn to track down

Sorry Leicesterman2
I have a William Dennis marrying a Mary Bonsor in my tree but so far I haven't found an Ellen Dennis marrying William Bonsor.

Hello Leicesterman2
According to Enland & Wales Marriages 1538-1940 (ancestry.co.uk) a William Bonsor married an Ellen Dennis on 16 July 1805 at Radford, Notts. It's also in the Nottingham Marriages 1552-1812. Obviously, this cannot be your Ellen if born 1797.
The 1841 Census has a William and Ellen Bonsor with 5 children at Heather, Leics. Ellen aged 50, but could be rounded. If this Ellen was Dennis and as Heather is in the right area a connection is likely, but I don't know what it is. I can't find a record of christening for Ellen Dennis though there are records of Helen and Eleanor about the right time and place. I can find no other marriage between a William Bonsor and an Ellen.

Hi Andy and Sue,
Thanks for your responses especially your data Andy, genealogy would be so easy if it wasn't for the dates :)
