Title: Granville/Allsop What connection with Bank of England COMPLETED THANKS
Post by: Kayzee on Tuesday 29 December 09 18:02 GMT (UK)
Hi,
Clarenza Granville bn 1870 Hertfordshire & George Frederick Allsop bn 1867 Hampshire married in Kensington in 1894. I know that her father was something in the Bank of England & that George was a bank official in the Bank of England. I have found Clarenza & George in Ellishope, Waterhouse Lane, Burgh Heath near Epsom in 1911 with their 3 children, but can anyone throw any light on George's career or that of his father in law? I have not managed to find the Granville's in 1881.

Hi Tazzie,
Doesn't sound like he was 'big in the Bank of England' then! Thank you for time, it's much appreciated.
Merry Christmas to you & yours!

St Matthias, Earls Court
1894 Sep 27
George Frederick ALLSOP, 27, bachelor, Bank Clerk, 27 Warwick Road, father George Allsop, Gentleman
Clarenza GRANVILLE, 23, spinster, -, St Andrews Fulham, father William Turnour Granville (deceased), Captain in the Army
Married after Banns.
Both signed in the presence of Stuart Granville, Harold J Lintott

1891 William Turnour Granville gives his birthplace as Ceylon

A couple of interetsing finds if you google his name. Also a few references if you do a Google Book search as well.

From what I can see WTG's mother was a TURNOUR, and they married in Ceylon. She was Frances TURNOUR, daughter of George TURNOUR who in turn was son of Edward TURNOUR, Earl of Winterton, and she married William GRANVILLE in Ceylon 5 Jul 1820. William was secretary to the government. If you look for TURNOUR and De Bretts you will find them, it was an Irish peerage. William Granville arrived in Ceylon in 1805.

If you look on FIBIS there are various items about the Granville and Turnour families as well.

5 Jul 1820
In Ceylon, William Granville, esq. Deputy Secretary to his Majesty's Government, to Frances, daughter of the late Hon. George Turnour, and niece to the late Cardinal de Bausset of Paris, and of the Earl of Winterton.

Thank you Ian for all that wonderful information. I hadn't expected to hear anymore after Tazzie's information yesterday & was just pleased to know who & where Clarenza's family were.  With all your extra detail I'm just blown away, thank you. Can I just be a pain again and ask what is FIBIS?
I hope you have a good day & a Happy New Year.
