Title: Nason, William
Post by: Wrinkles on Tuesday 29 December 09 15:20 GMT (UK)
I have just started my family tree and I need help and advice on the following:

I have found out that my Gt Grandfather is William Nason, born about 1844 according to the 1881 census.  He was married to Mary Ann Capness according to the marriage certificate (although the marriage certificate gives the name as Mason not Nason).  His father was William Mason according to marriage certificate and a labourer.  They lived in Birmingham.

My query is this:  how can I find William's birth certificate when I don't know either his mother or actual date of birth, and also I want to find his father's birth and marriage certificates and I don't know that information either.

According to 1871 census both William and Mary Ann were born in Kings Norton.

All suggestions welcome. :)

Hello Both
IGI has a William Nason christening:22/2/1791/Claverdon/Parents:James & Martha.
Also a member submit for Elizabeth Woodfield Ch.1805/Tiddington/Stratford-on-Avon.This fits with Tati's 1851 info.
Marriage:William Nason=Elizabeth Woodfield/20/1/1823/Stratford-on-Avon.
As there appears to be a large gap between the 1st & 2nd born I thought I'd look at the NBI:death:William Nason / 20/3/1829/King's Norton/age 9 months possibly a son.

Wow, thanks for the information veryone, and Kings Norton could be right, because things in the future state Kings Norton.

On Jim!'s email, what does member submit mean?  If it means that someone has already found William via Elizabeth, how do I contact that person?

there are 2 types of info.extracted records which are taken directly from the Registers by the IGI family search team & member submits which are sent to IGI by others & therefore may not be accurate. These should be viewed as a guide only.
The Registers are held at the War.CRO:
http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/countyrecordoffice
As you have a specific date you could contact them & ask them to look for you.
They will normally do this free of charge.

Hi Jim1

Not quite sure where you were ging on this one as I got confused.

Are you saying that the father of William (born 1844) was William (born 1790/1791) and married to Elizabeth Woodfield.

They had a son Henry (born 1831/32) (as in 1841 census) and then in

1851 census had daughter Martha (born 1841/42) and son William (born 1843/44) but also a possible son William, who died aged 9 months?

So to establish it was the correct father and mother of William (born 1844) I need this William's birth certificate, and then if his mother is Elizabeth Woodfield I would need her and William (born 1790/91) marriage certificate plus the birth certificate?

Oh if only they had different first names!! :(

Marriage certs. didn't come in until 1837.All there will be is the entry in the PR.It's always a good idea to back up what you have so getting the birth cert. for William b.1844 is the right thing to do.
The other William b.1829 is probably a son but you would have to look at the entry for St.Nicholas's King's Norton.
Other than that all the info.says William b.1844 is the son of William Naden & Elizabeth Woodfield.
The thing to do is get William's birth cert.assuming his mother is Elizabeth Woodfield contact War.CRO from the above link & ask them to check the birth details for Elizabeth.
