Post by: DEBBIEWEBBY on Tuesday 29 December 09 12:49 GMT (UK)
Hi, can anyone find my great grandfather. His name was Charles Henry Cooper. Born 1889 in what I'm let to believe was Manchester.
Died 1914
Any help would be appreciated.

Where have you already 'found' him?

Have you got him in any census? His marriage? Name/occupation of his father from the cert? Birth of any children? Certs? Death cert? (at only 25) .....

Tell us what you have, and we can search for any gaps. If you havent got his marriage cert then that would be a good move - if you cant find it in the indexes then give us all the detials and we will look (like name of spouse, dob and pob of first child, ws he married by 1911 census etc)

modified - sorry! just read your title - it says you want 1891 and 1901 look ups - I seemed to miss that before! I only took in the wording of the post itself. So - who was his dad from marriage cert?

I have his marriage certificate.
Charles Henry Cooper married Alice Ann Lamming in Clee, Linconshire on 25th December 1913.
His place of residence was St Gabriel Hulme. Manchester. Age 24 and was an armative winder?
Know he died in battle before my nan was born in Jan 1915
His father had the same name.

Hello

A Charles Henry Cooper, Private 1810 of the Manchester Regiment, was killed in action on 12th May 1915 at Gallipoli.

He was born in Walton, Liverpool, enlisted in Manchester and his residence was Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire.

Tracking (what seems to be) this person on the censuses, he was born in 1889 and his father was called Charles Henry Cooper, who was a Boiler Stoker.

Do you think that this might be the correct person ?

Debbie

I now have absolutely no doubt that this is the correct person because I have found him, at a later date (before his marriage), as a Boarder, in the household of Thomas Lamming, the father of his future wife.

Thank you so very much. I can't thank you enough. You are amazing!
I knew something wasn't right because my Nan was told he died at Alexandria before she was born.
I researched the battle of Alexandria and the dates did not add up. It never occured to me that he actually died after she was born.
Thank you again so much.
