Title: Look Up Please - Bristol 1861 or 1871
Post by: Mary Crane on Monday 14 March 05 03:25 GMT (UK)
Hi
I'd appreciate a Look Up in the 1861 or 1871 census for Bristol for James Simmons (or Symons) born 1832/33.
He was probably living at 31 William Street, St. Philips (although I'm not 100% sure of this), with his wife Mary, and by 1871 five children.  I'm trying to discover where he was born as the information I have doesn't appear to be accurate.  I know he was born in Devon, as was his wife who was born at High Bickington.

Many thanks

Mary C

Hi!
Dont know if this is any help but James Symons married Mary Davey in Torrington 1854. She was a widow in 1881 living with her daughter martha.
The only James Symons who seems to fit was born at Tiverton in 1831 parents Thomas and Martha.

Regards Mary

Mary

I have a Simmons / Crane connection in my tree.

William Simmons of Gloucestershire / wraxall / nailsea married sarah crane in 1832, these are my gt grandparents, Mary if there is any connection, can you please respond.

I believe williams parents to be William Simmons and hannah avery both of wraxall, but no confirmed evidence as yet to the link.

Any information on William simmons siblings and parentage would be great.

Regards

Hi Julie

I'm sorry but I can't help you here.   Since my last posts (in 2005) I have managed to find out a lot more  about the Simmons family.  They were from Devon until James (1834) and his wife Mary Davey moved to Bristol sometime between 1856 and 1861.  None of my Simmons family were in Wraxall in the 1800's.

As far as the Crane family is concerned I have only gone back to Frederick Crane (1813) and his wife Lydia Bailey (1806) both born in Bristol.  I haven't followed this family up further at this stage.  I suppose it is possible that Frederick had a sister Sarah but I haven't come across her.  If I do I will let you know.

Sorry I can't be of more help here.

Good luck

Mary

Hi Julie
Edna Simmons was a fourth cousin to my pal Diana, whose tree I am researching for her.
Edna's & Diana's common ancestors were Joseph Crane (1779-1842) and Sophia Shermer (abt 1783-1848)
How can we share lots of more detailed info?
