Please could somebody help me with my cornish reseach please.
I am looking for mentions of the surname Tambling in Parish records, esp. those of a Alfred John born abt 1882-84, mother most likely Ann Maria Tambling, father unknown.
He married in 1902 to Emma Jane Toms, and had children soon after this and well into the 1920s. He died in abt 1936.
Any infomation from Parish regs and anyone else of the Tambling (can also be spelt Tamblyn, Tamblin, etc) surname or Toms surname in that area would be great thanks.

Thanks, but I already have that research, it is more parish records I am looking for.

Have you tried the OPC site which is the Cornwall online parish clerks site?
-
I will try that thanks.
-
Have tried. The records I want aren't there. :(
-
if you go onto the OPC web site and find the OPC for Looe/Talland (Sue Dent)and e-mail her she should be able to help you. Anything after 1911 will not be on that web site.

Thanks

I am the Online Parish Clerk [geneaology] for Liskeard and St Keyne, can I help you?
Have you tried the WEB site www.cornwall-opc.org
-
hello, yes i tried that site and used the info i got from it to help me on other sites etc,it was the most helpfull site by far.
I was tracing my family back, and after a while realised that while you are tracing family history too forget most of what you have been told until you can prove it!
so far j have been trying to find a marriage that probably didnt happen and a birth meant to be in liskeard that happened in bere regis!oh and a woman who has used the surname from a man she didnt marry to marry some-one else..then she married the same man some years later using a different name!
If you would me to explain the timeline i can write another reply for you.
many thanks and kind regards

Philippa lizzie toms born liskeard 1888
we are told she married a john henry (roose-)nolan sometime before 1916
a william john roose-nolan born bere regis 1916
we are then told that john henry died in the war around 1916(more on this later)
we are then told she married an edward john george in 1918,we can only find one that matches but the brides name was phyllis r nolan.
thay had a daughter in 1918,phyllis m george (toms) but she was born in totnes.
then we know they moved to fleetwood where their daughter died aged 2 (1921)
we know they had another 2 children
winifred l george 1921 fleetwood
edward g george 1923 fleetwood
but, their names are actually recorded as winifred l g roose and edward g g roose, which is something we did not know until now.
Then we find a wedding in fleetwood between an edward john george and a phillipa toms in 1925!!
Now i know i have to allow for coincidences but this all seems to tie up.
The man john henry nolan did not die during the war and we are waiting for the oxford museum to get back to us on his army record(2nd oxford&bucks btn)
does this make any sense to any-one,(i know what i think)
many thanks.

Philippa lizzie toms born liskeard 1888
Hello k.nolan,
I have had a look at my Toms family so far and I don't think we are related sorry. But I may not have all of my ancestors, so I am not sure. Who were Philippa's parents? as that is where we could be related. If not it might be further back, as I haven't got there yet.
Hope I can help, (and that this post makes sense!)

I have had a look for marriages in Liskeard for Phillippa, but cannot find one.
Phillippa Lizzie Toms marry in 1908, Liskeard District, Vol5c, page 133, 2/4qtr. On the same page is Thomas John W Mitchell and Alfred Roose. either could be here husband. the only way to find out is to get the marriage certificate. I would think that this Philippa is you lady. You need to work backwards with the definite knowledge that you have, such as obtaining BMD certificates, from yourself, parents, grandparents, etc.
I have a Alfred Roose born 1887 in my tree. I don't know if he got married, but he died in Australia in 1923, and probate was granted to his sister in England.
If you have searched the OPC site you would have found
Phillippa Lizzie Toms baptised 25 Jun 1888 at Looe, dau of William Thomas (fisherman)and Susanna Phillippa. According finmypast her birth was registered 2/4qtr 1888 Liskeard district, Vol5c, Page59.
William Thomas & Susanna Phillippa COLLINGS were married at St Martin's by Looe on 20 Jan 1881. WT father was James and SP was William COLLINGS. Witnesses Charles Toms and Mary Marshall.
Their children were
Carries baptised 23 June 1881 at St Martin's by Looe
Wiliiam Thomas baptised 26 Feb 1883 at the Looe Weslyan Chapel.
Phillippa ROOSE married Edward J GEORGE 1925, Fylde District, Lancashire, 1/4qtr, Vol8e, Page 983. Could she have married under her married name, not maiden name. you need to get the certificate again.
Hope this is of some help to you.

just a thought.... the children could have been "adopted" by the Step father or mother.
