Title: henry taylor junior
Post by: hippie on Sunday 13 September 09 12:27 BST (UK)
hello,
Henry Taylor was my Gt Grandfather born in durham, his fathers name was also Henry .
I have h T jnr m/cert which states he was 29  1908 he married Elizabeth Vasey 28 years B1881.
Henrys d/cert 1943 states he was 77 .
1911 census shows Henry living in New Durham , Durham aged 48 therefore born 1863.
If his marriage age was 45 years that would give a birth year at 1863 ,with his death age 80 years again it shows 1863.
His son george was born 1903 Framwellgate Moor co Durham.
I am hoping someone else is serching the Taylor tree any help or further suggestions would be MOST WELCOME

Hi

Have you found him on earlier census?

Perhaps if you post the full details of his marriage ie occupations of him and his father also the witnesses names we might be able to locate him.

Unless my maths is very wrong, an age of 29 in 1908 gives a birth year of 1879 which seems even stranger!

I have seen some instances of a wrong age given on a marriage cert, sometimes when the bride was much younger.  Ages on death certs are only as accurate as the information given by the informant, who may not have know the correct age.

I take it you haven't found him on the 1901 and 1891 census?  What was the place of birth given for him on the 1911 census, and his occupation? If you've not seen the original image it's worth checking that to be sure his age isn't a transcription error in the index

Here's a possible baptism for Elizabeth if you don't already have this:
Durham Primitive Methodist Circuit
27 Dec 1880 Elizabeth Ann Vasey, of Framwellgate Moor, born 4 Dec 1880, daughter of Robson Vasey (miner) & Mary Ann Vasey

This looks a good possible for 1881 census, aged 9, giving him a birthdate of c1872 - father Henry a coalminer
see it here free at    http://www.rootschat.com/links/076o/

Leo, I just realised that I've been over a lot of this ground with you before on this thread:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,397738.0.html

That was when you thought Henry's parents might be George and Christina  :)

Now this one looks more likely, with parents Henry and Isabel.  Did you get credits and look at the full 1911 image as I advised on the other thread?  His age may be a mistake.

will check for him in 1901

1901 census - now called Harry and aged 24 so born 1877  ::)
I think he's already begun to take a few years off his age, and the marriage age of 29 in 1908 isn't so far out.  Are you sure you have the right death cert, and if so, does it perhaps say aged 71 not 77?

Harry Taylor    boarder single 24 Coal Miner (Putter)   New Durham, Durham

Going by the 1881 census with his parents giving his age as 9, which seems to be the most accurate, I'd be tempted to go for this birth cert, asking the register office to check his parents' names before you buy it

Kind regards,
Barbara

Lynnej Thanks for the information, been away thats why my reply is late re your posting.
The 1911 census re Henry Taylor has two daughters listed  Violet B1904 Annie B1910 Ellen was B and D 1908, perhaps your Ellen was named after her earlier sister which was the norm.
What is a pm?
Who is Walter Taylor re picture and do you think we are related?
