Trying to find out more about a Hathaway/Hathway family in Bitton and area. Hannah Hathaway, b. Dudley, Staffs., living in Bitton and Siston with 6 children - Henry b. ca 1840, Francis b. ca 1842, George b. ca 1845, Charles b. ca 1848, Alice Ann b. 1851 and Rhoda Ann b. ca 1857. Hannah listed as widowed on 1861 census and appears to be also in 1851. Could not locate family on the 1841. Alice Ann christening found in in IGI with no father listed.
Does anyone have any info. on this family?

Is this the George you show born c1845 ?
Births Mar 1845
HATHAWAY George Hamsbury Keynsham 11 129
If so, I wonder if this is his parents marriage ?
Marriages Mar 1843
BRIDGES Jane Keynsham 11 119
BRITTON Thomas Keynsham 11 119
HANDY Ann Keynsham 11 119
HARRIS Daniel Keynsham 11 119
Hathaway John Keynsham 11 119
KING Thomas Keynsham 11 119
POUTER Hannah Hamsbury Keynsham 11 119
WARD Elizabeth Keynsham 11 119
Hannah can be seen in the 1841 census as 'Punter', with presumably her parents and a 1 year old Henry in the Household ..... the next child is aged 9 ....
HO107; Piece 361; Book: 14; Parish of Bitton; Enumeration District: 3; Folio: 39; Page: 16
One drawback is that she is stated as born 'In County': which doesnt necessarily mean that she was of course !
Hannah was indeed shown as a Widow in the 1851 census.
FreeBMD is tediously slow, so I have not broadened a search for the death of a John beyond the Keynsham District.
Hope this may help, and not turn into a WGC! :)

Thanks so much, this is very helpful. I saw the George Hamsbury Hathaway registration in BMD, and thought he might be hers. You're finding the rest of the references is a big help. I will do some further research on these leads!

Just to add to this - Francis Hathaway reg. Mar 1843 as well, in Keynsham. He appears to be a year older acc. to censuses, but I know that doesn't mean much. Look likes his possible parents decided to get married when the second child was on the way!

Hi - So glad I found this!
My family descend from Hanah's son Charles. 1871 finds him married and living in Blaina South Wales. 1891 finds him still in Blaina with two sons, and still working as a miner.
His son Charles, born 1882, is my grandfather. My father Thomas Charles was born in 1922 and moved to Crowborough in East Sussex, England where I (Mervyn) am the youngest of his three sons born in 1953.
I have attached the 1871 and 1891 census extracts in the hope they are some interest to anyone's researches.
