Aaron tunstell, born about 1816 +/-4 in "england", probably staffordshire. Marries julia ann thomson on 13 july, 1841 in alloa, clackmannan, scotland. He was described as a potter, often mis-spelt. After 1851 he never appears to be at home again. How can i find out where and when he was born, lived and dies?

Does his marriage cert give anymore clues - like his fathers name and occupation? (sorry I am not familiar with Scottish ones)
Presumably you have found Julia in later censuses - are there children? Do their birth certs give any clues about father?
Do they marry - if so do they name him as father, if so does it ever say 'deceased' on any?
Have you found Julia's death? Is the informant her husband?

When aaron and julia married the only details given in the register were as i first posted. there doesnt seem to be a certificate for scottish marriages at that time. they had a son alexander on the '41 & '51 census (age 1 & 11) but i havent got his birth cert. They had at least one more son, robert, born about 1844 in alloa but as yet i have failed to find him anywhere before 1881, he does not appear to be at home in '51 & '61. on his marriage certificate in 1871 robert is 28 and aaron & julia are shown as parents, neither is noted as "deceased". no death certificates to hand at present. sorry to be so vague but i don't fully understand the scottish system, i'm in england and still a novice with ours.

To start with Aaron is alive in 1881.
1881 Scotland Census he is born 1817, England, a Potter, living at Kirk Wynd, Falkirk, Stirlingshire. He is down as a Lodger.
So his Death will be post early 1881.
The 1851 Census has Aaron as GARON Tunstall, with Julia Ann and Alexander age 1. Occp is Poller :D
Did you mean Alexander is 1 in 1851 and 11 in 1861??
1841 Census Aaron is under UNSTELL, unmarried, born England, Potter, living in Alloa with the Ross Family.
There is a Julia THOMSON, 25, born Alloa in the Household.

Found a tree on ancestry which had his death date so checked on Scotlands People - died 8/2/1884 Denny, Stirlingshire, aged 66. Shown as widower, wife was Julia Thomson and he was a Potter (journeyman) which could explain his non-appearance on census nights. Informant not a family member so no details of his parents are given I'm afraid.
In 1881 he was living in Falkirk, Stirlingshire
In 1871 he was in Cadder, Lanarkshire.
The census above and his death suggest a birth date of 1818.

The IGI has a birth entry for Aaron Tunstall ch 25 Mar 1821 Norton in the Moors, Stafford to Thomas and Charlotte Tunstall.
Not a definite match, but one to keep to one side perhaps.

Ralph Tunstall bn 1818ish is shown on 1851 census as a potter too.
Not hugely surprising, being as he is in the Potteries ::)

OK Try this for size
I have Aaron Tunstall born 1818 (not sure where) marries Ellen Quayle in Liverpool in 1853 (by which time he is 35) when he is described as a widower. I suspect he is the son of Aaron Tunstall b1773 in Liverpool, a potter.
Aaron & Ellen went on to have 3 children I can trace (William Henry died young, Aaron b1857 and John b1859). They are living together as a family in 1861.
Next info I have is Aaron's burial in 1864 in Liverpool.
Aaron's occupation is mostly given as 'engineer'

The 1841 Census (ref.HO107 - 568 - 19 - 46 - 25) and 1851 Census (ref.HO107 - 2187 - 583 - 18) shows your Aaron as married to an Ann - no children. As with 1861 Census (which you appear to have) he is shown as born Toxteth Park, Liverpool and birth ca.1815/1816.
His baptism is listed as Aaron Stunstall bp.26/3/1815 St. Nicholas, Liverpool, son of Aaron and Dolly (familysearch).
Aaron Tunstall married Dorothy Booth 13/11/1798 Upholland (familysearch)
1st marriage for your Aaron Tunstall was to Ann Clark 9/3/1835 St. James, Liverpool (his christian name given as 'Heron' - familysearch).
So your Aaron Tunstall - engineer - is not connected to the Aaron on this thread who was a potter.
