I am starting a search for Bridget /Delia Waldon and William Murphy. They would have immigrated from Ireland to Ohio, U.S. between 1855-1858. It is unknown where in Ireland they came from, however family memory is that they came from County Cork, (unverified). All their children appear to have been born in the US, so they would have immigrated as a young couple (assuming they didn't meet in the US and get married.) William Murphy had a profession of Plasterer. Given such limited information, where would you suggest a start searching records in County Cork? I must admit to feeling dismayed with this difficult task, but hope to get lucky. Thank you very much in advance for any advice you can give me. Carol

Try a Google search for Irish records or look on Cyndislist. BMD registers had not started in Ireland by then so you will need to go to parish records and the census. Griffiths vaulations (survey of land) have a lot of names on. Not easy if you don't know where to start! Can you trace the ship they went on?
Cork County Library might help.

I recommend looking for possible relatives nearby in Ohio when they emigrated. Other Murphys or Waldons

Sending the Library an e-mail would be better than snail mail 8) http://tinyurl.com/3z9b6p

Hi Andrea,
It's difficult to know what's going on when there's no response.
All Carol's posts were made in 2005 but she was last online in October.
