Hi All
I'm trying to find:
William Foster born 1879 Brighton, Sussex
Annie Foster born 1881 Brighton, Sussex
Rose Foster born 1900 Brighton, Sussex
Naiomi Foster born 1906 Wandsworth
Harry Foster born 1908 Wandsworth
on a ships list possibly departing to Shanghai or India between 1908 and 1922.
Is there anyone that could look this information up for me, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Caz
I've had a good look for them (using variations of names) but can't see a likely family heading eastwards :(
Could they have gone East via USA/Canada?

No joy here either :'(
No Roses or Naomis or Harrys and only a dubious Wm Foster - sorry.
-
And nothing from me either - I guess you already have Annie, Robert and Naomi coming back from Shanghai.

Hi Gadget. Ebch and Spidermonkey
I didn't hold out much hope, but I really appreciate you all taking the time to look for me. :-*
Spidermonkey, I do have them returning in May 1922. This would be shortly after William died in China in March 1922. I have no idea how I go about finding a death in China so any ideas on that front would also be greatly appreciated.
From the looks of things Rose and Ada returned to the UK by themselves in 1912 ages about 10 and 8 and I think it's possible that the parents returned to the UK in 1916 and then went back to India/China. I'm presuming William had something to do with the railways. Familylore has it that whilst in India, they lived like Royalty and also socialised with Raj and the rest of Indian high society, so I'm again presuming William had a senior position in the railways, not that it helps much!
We think the photo attached is them which if correct, going by the age of the baby, would have been taken in 1916, hence my theory they travelled back and forth but of course, without a passenger log to prove it, it's all just pie in the sky.
Once again, many thanks and Merry Christmas.

Hi Caz
What a splendid photo :)
His death might be registered in the GRO's overseas deaths.
Here's one that looks promising:
Foster, William H aged 43 Mukien v 16 p 63
GRO Consular Death indices - 1921-1925
Not sure where Mukien is and my Googling isn't throwing up anything except for Mukden :-\

Forgot to say that you can order this cert in the same way as ordinary BMD certs but you have to specify that it's the Overseas Consular deaths index, etc.

I can't scan and compress but I do google good :D
Mukden is Manchu for Shenyang - in North East China
Shenyang is also known as Shengjing or Fengtian ;D
Happy Christmas

Hi Ladies
We found the gravestone for Annie in Hereford and inscribed on it is
William Foster interred Hwark Nu Tun (or Ton) March 1922 which I think could be eastern China but has been renamed ???

Was he William H Foster, Caz?
-
I've found a William H Foster going to Shanghai in October 1922 with a wife Lillian so I'm not sure that the death that we've found would be your Willam's as both his birth and marriage records record him as just William and, as the Consular indexes are in blocks of years, the ref could be anytime between 1921 and 1925.

Hi, I have messaged Caz too, are you related to William h Foster, as we are too!

Hi PDoddle
Brian and I are related to William H Foster that married Annie Wilkinson, with children all born in Brighton - Rose, Naomi and Harry.
Annie Wilkinson was also born in Brighton, the daughter of Richard Wilkinson and Mary Harris.
Do we share a connection? :D

William Henry Foster and Annie Mary Wilkinson were my husband's grandparents. Naomi Foster was his mother. Glad to find someone else looking them up
