George Brown married janet Whyte on either 10 APR 1825 in Galston or 26 APR 1825 Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland .
Is it possible to find out who his parents were listed as on his marriage certificate. Any help appreciated.

hi Brownie :)
scotlandspeople website has 10th april 1825 galston ayr in old parish register
banns and marriages for george brown and janet whyte
it is probably not the marriage date but the announcement of the intent to
marriage(banns)
it is pay to view
i've not seen many of these old parish marriage entries but believe
that in the majority of entries the parents are not mentioned

Yes, that is them. I have them on the 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, and 1881 census records.
It is george brown's parents that I am trying to check on. I have been given a family tree which lists John brown and Mary Morton as his parents, BUT... as far as I can see there is no certificates or proof that they are actually his parents. I am looking for a way to prove it. Otherwise there is a big hole in our tree. Hope that makes sense.

There is a George Brown (and siblings) on the IGI, parents John Brown Mary Morton born 1801 Loudoun, Ayrshire. This ties in with age on census too. Have you found his death cert?
-
No, I haven't found it yet.
-
Where is George Brown on the 1881 census and what age does he show?
-
On SP found a death for George Brown widower of Janet Whyte. He was 79 years, died April 3, 1880.Lived ( and died I believe) on Eglington Street, Glasgow. Died of Natural Decay. His grandson ,George Craig was the informant. Parents were listed as Allan Brown- hand loom weaver-deceased and Agnes Brown m.s. Young deceased. #644/12 0270
I looked and found no Allan Brown marrying a Agnes Brown. There was an Agnes Young and William Brown married 1806 Ayr.
Please keep in mind that the informant being George's grandson probably didn't know the parents so the names may not be accurate. Just something I have come across before.

hi all :)
Szac - that makes sense as there appears to be children allan & agness , on
the 1841 census , to george brown and janet whyte
the are 3 children showing to an allan brown and agnes young on the IGI , all
born galston ayrshire - margaret(b. 1791) , john(b. 1793) , hugh(b.1795)
there is also a submitted entry on IGI for an allan brown , parents allan brown
& agnes young - born 1797 , died 21st may 1870 galston ayrshire

I saw the entry for Margaret, John and Hugh..... George was born in 1801 and can't find his birth. At least my tree is making sense now. Had a feeling that the person who first put it together had used a bit of guess work.
I haven't found anything on janet Whyte yet .
Once again thankyou .

note
I haven't found Robert White and Jane Cameron, so........... Once again that would need to be checked.

Thankyou for the information. Has the spelling of 'Whyte' changed to 'White"?
Now I am researching the brown & White families lol
-
there is also a submitted entry on IGI for an allan brown , parents allan brown
& agnes young - born 1797 , died 21st may 1870 galston ayrshire
What is the diffeence between a submitted entry and any other sort of entry?
the are 3 children showing to an allan brown and agnes young on the IGI , all
born galston ayrshire - margaret(b. 1791) , john(b. 1793) , hugh(b.1795)
there is also a submitted entry on IGI for an allan brown , parents allan brown
& agnes young - born 1797 , died 21st may 1870 galston ayrshire
If there is 3 births recorded why can't I find george (1801) ?
Sometimes genealogy gets so frustrating :)
