I would like to make contact with anyone researching the Bull families of Longdown, Marchwood & Eling.
I am having problems with Charles Bull 1816 son of John Bull 1809 & Mary Shelley/ Shilley. I would like to know more about his wife and children. I have checked the Census records but there two entries who could be him.
Any help would be appreciated

Hi Marpatch,
Can I just check the dates with you, please?
John Bull married Mary Shilley in Beaulieu in 1832. I've not managed to find a son Charles yet, but he can't have been born in 1816 :-\

Hi Nell
Sorry Nell, in my haste I must have been looking at the wrong entry. Charles Bull 1816 parents were George Bull 1786 & Francis (Fanny) Pickett..
Regards

Can you tell me what information you already have for this family? I've found George and Frances' marriage in 1807 but not having much luck in finding the baptisms of any children.
What are the two possibilities for Charles? If he was born in 1816, I think I can safely rule out a marriage in 1828.

Nell,I have found
No 1. Charles Bull listed on 1851-1901 Census married to Louisa ? giving his dob as 1816 born in Bolder on 1851 census. occ farmer then dob 1821 born Beaulieu on the rest. still married to Louisa with children Clara & Thomas.
N0 2. Charles Bull 1851/61/71 census dob 1815/16 born Eling. wife Jane children, charles, betsy.jane.emma.john Occ Cordwainer.
I believe that Charles had three sisters Ellen 1826, Mary 1826, Fanny 1829 and a brother John 1809.
You are correct with his parents marriage 1807. George was born at Bolder, not sure about Francis. I was hoping to find out which Charles was the correct son of George & Francis.
I have George & Fanny on the 1841 census listing the children giving Hampshire as place of births.
Many thanks

By a process of elimination, Charles who married Louisa appears to be George's son.
He is not married in 1841, but there are two other Charles Bulls in Hampshire, both with wives named Jane. One lives in Eling, the other in Boldre. By 1851, Charles son of George is now married with Clara & Thomas. The other two Charles, both with a wife named Jane, are in Eling and Boldre. The names of the children correspond sufficiently. The Charles living in Boldre married Jane Lancaster in 1821, children:
Charles 3 Mar 1822
Barbara 5 Oct 1823
James 30 Oct 1825
Ellen 3 Feb 1828
Emma 6 Jun 1830
Emily 5 May 1833
Eliza 5 Jul 1835
Alexander 7 May 1837
Jane 2 Aug 1840
Charles living in Eling married Jane Howard in 1828, children:
Charles Robert 29 Mar 1829
Emma 13 Mar 1830
Mary Ann 30 Sep 1832
Thomas 13 Nov 1836
I cannot find the baptism of Charles, son of George, nor any of his apparent siblings except John in 1809.
There are two possible marriages that I can see for Charles son of George:
Charles Bull Dec 1844 Southampton 7 321 – Louisa Powell on same page
or Dec 1838 Southampton 7 274 – Louisa Scammell on same page.

Have you tried http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/w/h/i/Martin-P-White/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-0457.html ? There are a few connections made in the earlier times which I'll personally consider slightly tenuous until I've personally seen the basis for them in their context.
I'm descended from the John BULL/Mary SHELLEY [& variants] marriage. I serendipitously found their grave the other week in Marchwood Church, and am off on Friday to get some better photos and for further investigations with more time available for the nearly illegible BULL gravestones nearby..

Thank you Jon for the photo of the grave from Marchwood, I hope that you have an interesting day on Friday and that you manage to get so more photos. I hope that the weather is favourable for your search of more of the Bull family headstones.

Hello,
I am distantly related to this Bull family. At present I have only done cursory census research to prove the link.
John Bull and Mary Shelley actually married in Boldre according to entry 178 page 60 parish of Boldre 04/09/1832
Their son John c1844 marr Thyrza Bell from Whiteparish Wilts. His brother Samuel Bull married Thyrza's sister Vashti Bell.
John Bull and Thyrza's son, James Walter 1869 married my kinswoman, Kate Elizabeth Bunce b 1872 Bradfield Berks, dau of Joseph Bunce and Jane Sellwood, and moved to Putney.
Jane Sellwood is my link being one of my paternal Sellwoods.
James Walter Bull and Kate Elizabeth had 2 children, one of whom was killed in WW1.
That is as far as I have got but I would be happy to share what I have researched in exchange for any other information/photos/etc.

Hello you Bull relatives. A long shot but I wonder if anyone can help me get further. I have a definite record of a marriage at Beaulieu of William Wheeler and Charlotte Bull but cannot trace either back further. Help please.
-
Could you put a date for the Wheeler/Bull marriage, just for information and help for others?
-
The wedding was at Beaulieu Church with banns 25 March, 1 April and wedding 8 April 1792. Wheeler/Bull.
-
I cannot find a baptism for a Charlotte Bull in the Hampshire Baptism Indexes but I did find her buriel {Hampshire Buriel Indexes} which would suggest she was born c 1772
Buriel
19 March 1816-Charlotte Wheeler at Beaulieu age 44
These Wheeler baptisms from the Baptism Index parents William & Charlotte
25 May 1800-Fanny at Boldre
09 May 1806-Elizabeth at Fawley
06 Nov 1809-William at Fawley {nee Bull} is entered
15 Aug 1813-Louisa at Exbury
Buriel
16 Aug 1818-William Wheeler at Beaulieu age 11

Thank you Kim, There was a core of Bulls in Boldre and although I cannot find Charlotte in the records this suggests that she did come from Boldre before marrying William. Also seems William came from Beaulieu before moving to Stanswood, Fawley.
