Title: cant read a bit on census
Post by: 111den111 on Friday 18 December 09 11:17 GMT (UK)
Hi everyone,

Sorry to keep being a pain, but I am trying to make a family history book for my nan for christmas and keep getting stuck on the old handwritting used in the census.  I am not very good at reading them.  I am stuck on Thomas Prices job, at the bottom with the read stars? Is it a lab? short for labourer?

thank you very much

Hi

It looks to me to be "Ind" - short for "Independent"

Anna :)

I agree, looks like ind, which means living on independent means, i.e. had his own private income.

Definitely Ind. But it looks to me he is Not born in County. There is also an Ann Price age 50 on the next Census page who is.

Trish :)
