William PARK d.17/9/1855 Hawick
Agnes PARK d.before 1855
William PARK d.1842
Elizabeth PARK d. before 1907
Agnus RUTHERFORD d.11/2/1907

I have heaps and heaps of PARKs from Hawick, but don't know when they died and am still looking for lots of marriages.  I'll send a separate message with a list of names and if anybody is able to help that would be wonderful.

Shirlbur,
I noticed first off that there are 2 deaths  1855 (magic year) (1st year of civil reg)
If you have not already gotten their death certs...it would be well worth your while to do so,...as there is often more info on them that year then later years.
Scotlands People is where a lot of us go  (pay...but reasonable) and get these on line.

Yes, I am a member of Scotlands People and have the death certificates for those who died in 1855.  Very helpful.

What a wonderful wonderful headstone with all that family information.  I love the headstones with so much on them.  Thanks so much ajjbc for all that.
Just wish I could find as much info on my KING family from the same area.

You are welcome.
Did the KING'S stay in Hawick?
Do you use the LDS site?
Do you use ancestry.com?
Glad to hear you use S.P !!

Hello! Just a quick question about your KING family...is there a chance that they may have come from Duns in Berwickshire?  Pat

I do not have a lot of info re my KINGs in Hawick.  All I know is James KING married Martha/Marjory PARK on 28 Jun 1794.  I have only been able to find births of 2 children: Adam & William Elliott KING both born 1807 in Minto, Roxburgh.  I have tracked Adam and his descendants, from whom I am related.  Have found nothing on William Elliott so I presume he died young.
But it seems such a long time to wait to have children, from 1794 to 1807.  I feel that surely there must have been some other children born before Adam and William.
I would love to find deaths of both James and Martha KING - also their birth dates.
That is all I have.

I do use the LDS site as well as Ancestry.  I have been researching for about 15 years, but have struck a brick wall.  Finding headstone inscriptions is fantastic, but not all families had them or could afford them.

Hello shirlbur, Thank you for the information on your KING family.....I, too, am stalled out on my King line (King/Sligh in 1798 in Duns)..The only census my King is in indicates he is not from Berwickshire, but no other leads...The Slighs were in that area for many generations.  Keep me in mind if you ever think you have a connection.  ;D  Happy holidays! Pat

Hi Shirlbur,

I am also researching the Park family tree.  I have quite a bit of information if I can be of any assistance.  I also have a few photographs of some headstones if you are interested.  I am now looking to go back further than William Park b.1803 who married Betty Stitt b. 1805 and also William Park b.1784 who married Agnes Scott b.1781.  My great great grandmother was a Park, we don't have many photos of the Park family though, I don't know if you have.  If you can help me in any way please let me know.  I have just come across this site so not to sure what happens now!

Hi,  I have discovered in the last few weeks that the Park names I mentioned in my previous emails are incorrect!!!
Here is the correct info.
Mather Park (mygggggrandmother) b.15/10/1773 Ewes, Dumfrieshire, Sct to parents James Park and Margaret Tait.  James & Margaret were married 8/11/1770 Hawick.
I have been unable to find any other children born to James Park and Margaret Tait, nor have I found James and Margaret's births.
I can help with your William Park and Agnes Scott as I was researching this particular line, thinking that it was connected to mine.  It still may be, but there is no connection now, other than Elizabeth Rutherford marrying an Armstrong.
I will post another message under the subject PARK/TAIT to hopefully attract more responses.

Hi LEAHGR,
I also meant to say that unfortunately I don't have any photos of the PARK family, but would be very interested in photos you have of headstones.

Hi Shirlbur,

I don't know that the headstone pic's will be any good to you if they are not on the same branch.  I have them for William Park & Christina Jardine, John Park & Maggie Little or Francis Park & Isabella Turnbull.  I can e-mail you any of these if you want them.  I live in Hawick so it's easy for me to access the cemetry if there are any more you would like me to look for.  I have become stuck on the William Park & Agnes Scott branch and cannot get any further up.  I really need to know who their parents were, or any other information you have would be brilliant.  Well done you on getting right back to 1773.  I wish I could find more information.  Cheers.

I would love to see the pics of headstones of William Park & Christina Jardine, and also Francis Park & Isabella Turnbull.  They are indirectly linked to my family, and Turnbull is quite prominent also.
How fantastic that you live in Hawick!!!  I know I have heaps of family members who died there.  I will have to go through my data and come up with some names for you.  What about Wilton?  Are you able to get there easily?
In regard to William Park and Agnes Scott - I have as William's parents, William Park and Agnes Elliott, but I'm not sure if this is correct.  Again, I'll have to go through what I have and see if there are any more clues.  At one stage I was trying to link the family with the Elliott name, and this is what I came up with, but since been proven an incorrect link.
Will get back to you with some names to look up in cemeteries.  Regards, Shirley

Hi LEAHGR,
I have had a quick lookup and most of my lot seemed to have died in Wilton.  Names that are connected are Turnbull, Hart, King.  In particular Margaret Turnbull d.1880; James Walpole d.1881; Mather Armstrong d.1858; Francis Armstrong d.1903.

In Hawick - Richard Turnbull Armstrong d.1933.  He lived at 8 Wellington St.

It seems that a lot of the family moved to Lanarkshire, and other areas nearby.

Any help would be appreciated.
Shirley

Hi Shirlbur,

How do I go about e-mailing you the pics?  Yes I can see both cemetries from my house.  They are called The Wellogate Cemetery and Wilton Cemetery.  Do you have a birth year for Agnes Scott?  Funny you should mention Wellington Street, that's were some of my family were brought up.  How weird!  Am I correct in thinking you live in Australia?  Which sites do you find your information on?
