Does anyone have the MIs for Bent Cemetery, Hamilton? They aren't included among the MI indexes on the Memento Mori site.
Have the monumental inscriptions for Bent cemetery been transcribed? If so, are they available for purchase on CD?
Many thanks.
Cheers,
Rodeo

Who are you looking for?
-
Hi Sancti
Thanks for your reply. I'm looking for some of my Patersons from Hamilton, notably John Paterson, mason (b. 1828, d. 9/3/1878), his wife, Janet Mack (b. 1829, d. 30/6/1904) and their children, James (d. 4/6/1857, age 1 year), Maggie Paton Paterson (b. 1866, d. 1/11/1880) and William (d. 29/9/1893).
Also, looking for Major Lennox Dundas Paterson, architect (d. 28/1/1984) and his wife, Elizabeth Christie Rankin (d. 19/6/1983).
Cheers,
Rodeo

Hi Rodeo
I was just about to post a message identical to yours, looking for records from Bent Cemetery, so if you don't mind I'll post here with you, then I'll get advised of responses.
I'm looking for Bridget Whitelaw, widow of David, of Whitehill Road, Hamilton, died aged 72 on 7/2/1918.

If you want burial records, then see: http://www.southlanarkshire.gov.uk/portal/page/portal/EXTERNAL_WEBSITE_DEVELOPMENT/SLC_ONLINE_HOME/BIRTHS_DEATHS_MARRIAGES/CEMETERIES/CEMETERIES_RELATED?CONTENT_ID=993
Bent Cemetery is administered by the South Lanarkshire Council.
They should be able to give your the lair number and location - this would help you to find the memorials (if there are any).

Found the John Paterson headstone but can't see the one for Lennox.

Lanarkshire Family History Society have a copy of the Bent Cemetery Reel. They are in the process of transcribing this and it should be ready for publication soon.

Thanks for the information, Hemmy. Fantastic news!

I'd forgotten I'd posted on this topic.
Thanks for the news Hemmy. If you find out when it's published will you be able to post on here the details of where to get it? :)

:)
I had a wander around today in the section with deaths of that timescale and couldn't see any Whitelaws
-
Thanks so much for looking Sancti, a lot of my relations did not get headstones so I'll have to wait to look at the records
-
I'll have a look at the next section later in the week.
-
When and where did David die?
-
The reference department of Hamilton Public Library in Cadzow Street have had the Bent day book on microfilm for years, an email enquiry may work.
(I think it is now called the Town House Library?)

Hi Sancti - have sent personal message explaining I got Bridget's husband's name wrong. David was 1st husband, he died 1875 and she re-married Robert Whitelaw.
Thanks for the link Lodger, it's very useful, and from past experience I've found Scottish librarians very helpful when you send them a query :)
