I have a Maria(h) Woods nee Brennan(d) born abt.1835 in Ireland.
On some census records her birth place is Tipperary.
In 1881 it is transcribed as "Harra, Ireland".
RG11, 4176, 49, 40
I have googled and checked maps but can't find this place.
Any local help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Dave

I used to live in Tipperary and have not heard of Harra but might suggest
that this refers to the Arra mountains in Tipperary???
Just a suggestion!

Or either of the parishes in that area: Castletown Arra and Youghal Arra.

Hi Dave
We meet again !
You may remember we exchanged some information in 2007 when we discovered we had some common Woods ancestors - and Thornley interests ?
This Maria Wood(s) was my GG grandmother. I've not been able to find this place in Tipperary. 1881 is the only census to mention this place, on other censuses it just says Tipperary or Ireland. I've looked though some Irish records for her but haven't found her.
I've found her in England on 1871 - 1901 censuses but can't find her before 1871.
I have more information about her if you're interested, inluding her marriage certificates (she was married twice)and death certificate, so let me know if you want any further information. If you have found her on earlier censuses or have any other information, I would be keen to know.
Regards .... Malcolm

Hi Malcolm,
Yes I remember it well. I was just starting my tree in those daysand I was a bit green.
Did you know that Maria was previously married to a Michael Fox.
She married in 1854 and Michael was killed in 1855 at the age of 23
He was attacked by a group of men on his way home from the pub. in Oswaldtwistle there are 2 newspaper reports:-
The Preston Guardian , Saturday, June 2, 1855
Manchester Times, Wednesday, June 6, 1855
If you cant get Gale Newspapers pm your email and I will send the reports.
Regards
Dave
