Title: can anyone translate this job on a census for me?
Post by: 111den111 on Saturday 12 December 09 14:04 GMT (UK)
Hi,

I am trying to read what this occupation is on the census.  It is the word inbetween the red stars.  Any help would be really appriciated.

Thank you so much

Can you give the full reference so that we can look at the whole page?  sometimes other bits of handwriting will give a clue.

Could it be Porter??

What did the earlier census give as his occupation that could give a clue.

Hi,

I agree with Porter.  There are a couple of Cotton Porters further down the page very similar.

Regards,
Mo

I don't know what it could be, it looked like prelate, but I don't think so somehow!

Just to help  (hope you don't mind)
if you view the record, not the original image, and scroll down, you'll see the source citatation.  This is the reference.
And for this one it's  - RG10/3975/95  p 27

Hi I agree with Jacques,
It does look like porter, if you check out the writing style a couple of lines below (easier to reader scholar). The letters are easier to decipher.
Hope that makes sense :D
