I am descended from Amelia Tucker daughter of Eliza Tucker and Henry Pinnell.
Eliza was born c 1825 Iffley according to the 1851 and 1861 census and I have now found her in the 1841 census in Iffley with George and Hannah Tucker. George is born about 1766 in county and Hannah about 1786 out of county.
It looks as if George probably died in 1844 as there is a death in Headington district on FreeBMD and Hannah is with her grandson and a visitor and shows herself as a widow on the 1851 census. I have also found her on the 1861 and 1871 census. The 1851 census shows her as born Newbury, Berks but the 1861 shows her as born in Wilts although I cannot decipher where in Wilts. Her place of birth is also indecipherable in 1871 and I think she died in 1872.
I am assuming that George and Hannah were married - there is a marriage of George Tucker and Hannah Lee on the IGI in Iffley on 28 April 1821 and that they were Eliza's parent but I have been unable to find a baptism for Eliza.
Does anyone have access to the Iffley parish records and could let me know if they contain any extra informantion about the Tucker family, particularly a baptism for Eliza or any further details about the marriage of George and Hannah?
Any help much appreciated.

This might be your parish ....
Taken from http://www.british-history.ac.uk
"EAST GARSTON
Esegarestun (xii cent.); Hesegerton, Esegareston (xiii cent.); Esgarston (xiv cent.); Estgarston, Argaston (xvi cent.); locally pronounced Argasson."
It is in Berkshire but close to Wiltshire.

Eliza TUCKER baptised in Iffley to George and Hannah 5 June 1821.
Unfortunately there is also a burial for an infant Eliza TUCKER 17 July 1821. One can only assume it is her.
However, they seemed to of named another child Eliza and baptised her in 16 April 1826.

Thank you very much for that. That does look as if it might be where I should start looking for Hannah.

From Oxfordshire Marriage Index
28 April 1821 George Tucker to Hannah Lee at Iffley
Hope this helps......

Thank you - no sign of a baptism for Hannah at East Garston so I shall continue seeking - I wonder if the two Eliza's had any other siblings - Iffley does not appear to be on the IGI although there is a submitted entry which would suggest that George was the son of Joseph and Mary Tucker. They could be the same Joseph Tucker and Mary Jones who married on 01 SEP 1765 St Mary Magdalene, Oxford, Oxford according to the IGI.

Thank you very much for that Harry. The marriage is particularly interesting.
I believe Eliza had an illegitimate daughter, Amelia and at least one illegitimate son; as she appears with Henry Pinnell and a son Henry age 1 in 1851 and Henry Pinnell and a son William age 11 in 1861 (at which stage Amelia is shown with her grandmother, Henry Pinnell's mother in Badminton). I also believe that Henry died in the Oxford workhouse in 1866. I have not been able to find either of the two boys after 1861.
Hmmm, I have found an Eliza Cox of the right age with husband Thomas in the 1881 but they are both born Bicester and have a son Joseph age 20 which doesn't quite fit! Will have to have a look at the 1871 on Ancestry when I can get to the library!

Gill,
I've found Thomas and Eliza in 1871 in Oxford. Looks like Thomas was not a bachelor at the time of marriage as there are three children :)
I'll see if I can confirm in the 1861 census.

I wondered about that - I was going to try and check when I can get to the library. Your help is much appreciated - Eliza has been driving me mad for years!

Gill,
Thomas COX was married previously (I've found him with Matilda and children in 1861).
There is also a death record:
Eliza COX aged 52 - Dec qtr 1879 Oxford Vol 3a Page 421
Age is a little adrift (but not much)

If that is her death it can't be her in 1881 - do the children match with those in 1881 - Joseph born 1861, Emily 1863 and Alice 1868? Since all the children are born Watford it could be a completely different family.
-
Gill,
Sorry - I should have been more specific. The family in 1881 is headed by Thomas a railway policeman and Eliza his wife (both born Bicester) - I can also find this family in 1871. Your Eliza is married to Thomas Cox a plasterer and is living in Oxford St Ebbe in 1871 and is shown as born Iffley. This is consistent with the marriage record.
