If possible could someone look up the Revd. William Chartres in the Alumni Dublinensis?
His 1898 Crockfords entry suggests he graduated from TCD in 1856 or 1857.
Thanks.

William Chartres was born in 1843. He was the son of John Chartres and (unknown) Thompson. He married Barbara Montgomery, daughter of Captain William Montgomery, in 1869. He died in 1886.
William Chartres graduated with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.). He was Medical Officer for the District of Maguiresbridge. He was registered as a Licentiate, Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland (L.R.C.S.I.).
His brother James Chartres was born in 1839 and in 1862 he acquired part of the Curragh estate, had 2 children Jane and John.

Thank you so much hallmark. I really appreciate it. :)
The William Chartres I was looking for was a clergyman, and (according to Crockford's) graduated from TCD 1856-1858. Could this be the same William Chartres you have found?
He would have been between 13 and 15 graduating if he was born in 1843. Or perhaps I am interpreting Crockford's incorrectly?
-
I'm not sure if it is the same William, hence my additional info of brother etc which may help determine if he is the same one. If you have father's name for him or siblings then you would know one way or another.

Thanks Hallmark.
I have two William Chartres to search for. One was born in Offaly in 1828 and so is definitely not the man you found in TCD. The other is a "Revd. William Chartres of Armagh" mentioned in an old letter who was supposed to have links to the family. I haven't a clue who he is. He could be the man in Crockford's, the man in TCD, or another man altogether! If he even exists. Ah well, I'll keep looking. :)
Thanks again for taking the trouble to look up & post the info you found.

Thanks Hallmark. Where did all that Chartres info come from? The name that is interesting to me is Emelia. 'My' William C had a niece Emilia Chartres 1857-1899. I wonder was it a family name?
-
Emelia wasn't a family name... Elizabeth was the main E one. Burke's Irish Family Records and Burke's Peerage covers the lines for Chartres and Charters.

i am interested in the George Chartres b 1851 mentioned in Burke's family history
I am still piecing it together as far as i can figure out two of his daughters are related to my side
An Eliza Chartres married William Shaw of Abbet st in 1810
An Sarah Chartres married a James Wheeler about 1800 (exptrapolated from family letter which indicates that the Rev George B Wheeler son of James and Sarah Wheeler married Charlotte Shaw daughter of Eliza and William Shaw
another son George ended up being transported to New South Wales Australia in 1811 for larceny but returned in about 1820
George Chartres surgeon (incorrect in Burkes) wrote a book on Midwifery he married Letitia Booker
i am mainly looking for the wheeler side so information on the marriage of james and Sarah Wheeler would be helpful as would the baptism details of George Chartres children
another daughter letitia married a robert gentleman

in burkes 1862 on-line under gentleman it records the marriage of letita chartres daughter of george chartres md (doctor of medicine) to robert gentleman
in the dublin treble almanacs george chartres is recorded as a surgeon in jervis st.
