Looking for Katherine Harriett King but cannot find her on the 1871/81 Censuses. She was born on 29th February, 1868, in Worcester Street, Gloucester. On a later census (when she is married to Alfred Atkinson) her place of abode is given as St Mary De Lode, Glos. Her father was William King and her mother Elizabeth. She may possibly have had a younger brother, Frederick King.
Many thanks

Hi Wendy,
Haven't found Katherine King but have found William and Elizabeth (I think) in 1871 living on a boat with daughter Fanny aged 5 but no Katherine.
William's occupation is down as Boatman and the family's address at the time of the census was " slept in a boat nr. Corporation Yard, Holliday Street, St Thomas's Birmingham. He was born in Gloucester and Elizabeth and Fanny were born in Stoke Prior, Worcestershire.
Will keep looking for anything else.
Regards,
Elizabeth

Following on, I have found William and Elizabeth in 1881 at 31 Scarletwell St. Northampton but now William is a gen. lab. and says he was born in Worcester. No children with them.
Fanny now 15 is living with her grandmother Ann Nicholls and uncle Henry also in Northampton and she is working in shoe fitting.
I have found nothing for Katherine, Catherine, Cath or Kate or even Harriett King but there is a public tree on Ancestry with a photo of Catherine H King and the same parents as I have found. There is nothing for her for 1871 or 1881 on that tree,
Her birth is registered and then nothing till she marries. Weird!
Sorry I could not help on this one.

That sounds more like the right family. Well spotted Yonderpeasant. It is so easy to get it wrong if you don't check things out.

Having checked again, it does not appear to be on Ancestry but I found it on FindMyPast. Is that where you found it?

Many thanks for your help, I have now looked it up on FindMyPast and found it - I am sure this is the right family as I have a copy of Katherine's birth certificate and that states her father, William, as being a Master Carpenter. Thanks again for you help, I have now been able to move the family back a little further.
Wendy :)
