Title: mccarthy family
Post by: besham on Wednesday 09 December 09 10:20 GMT (UK)
Hi Everyone

I am looking for any descendants of Jeremiah McCarthy born 28th June 1853. Parents Michael and Bridget (neePower) Mccarthy. In the 1901 census there is a Jeremiah and Johanna with children Mary and Bridget. Jeremiah was a shoemaker. I am trying to find out if this is the right Jeremiah.
Thanks
Besham

probably the way to prove the connection would be to try to find the marriage details for Jeremiah and Johanna on the civil index and order a cert, which would show father's names and occupation. It may help the marriage search to also locate a birth cert for Mary or Bridget to confirm Johanna's maiden name.

there's a few Jeremiah McCarthy marriages that could fit, depending on the ages of their children - 1873 Waterford registration district, 1875 Carrick-on-Suir, 1880 Youghal and 1884 Lismore.

The civil index is available to search at : Irish Civil Index (http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347)

Hello, I have been off the site for some time, but I noticed the Jeremiah McCarthy message tonight, for the first time.

I am descended from a Jeremiah McCarthy/McCarty of that era, and living in the East end of London.
His Partner was Bridget Power, and the Issue of the marriage was aDaughter; Bridget McCarthy born 1880 and a Son; Jeremiah born in  1886.

This Family have been driving me mad for four years with a lack of provable records, name changes and non registrations. If you would like to discuss off line, please advise, and I will ask the site operators to pass on my e mail address.
Regards
