Title: Coulson families of the North East
Post by: JudyF on Tuesday 08 December 09 19:47 GMT (UK)
The 2 most dense areas of Coulson families in England are Northumberland and East Anglia, with far more families in the North East.  My Coulson family comes from Cambridgeshire and I can follow the family name back to 1550 still within Cambridgeshire.  The density of the 2 areas is so definite, with a large geographic gap in between, it looks as though one part of the family moved from one area to the other.  A big question, but does anyone know which way the drift moved?  Any theories would be appreciated.  Judy F

Hi Judy, i too have the same - my mothers Norfolk skillings family moved almost en mass to Tyneside in the mid 1800's.
i remember reading in a family mag that this was common then as ag lab jobs dried up and workers were needed elsewhere. some companies provided a means for them to move.

1.The Industrial Revolution in the latter half of the eighteenth century stimulated a major redistribution of the population. People moved to locate adjacent to factories. This was further prompted by the decline of the traditional cottage industries.
2.Towns started to benefit from specialisation, prompting further growth.

This is the only information i have Stephen (1775) married Elizabeth Bennison (1784- 1872) she was born in Thwing, Yorkshire. They had 7 children born from 1817 to 1826.

Stephens parents were : John and Elizabeth Bennison. They had 4 children (including Stephen) born from 1769- 1775. They had twin boys born in July 1773
