I am looking for any info on Frederick Olson (Olsen) born at Kingston upon Hull in 1810, possibly emigrated to New Zealand in the 1850s and, if so, died there in 1889. I would also like to connect him to Edward Olson (Olsen), born 1843 at Tetney, Lincolnshire who moved to New Zealand in the 1850s and died Nov 1893 in New Zealand. His brother was Harold.
Also posted in East Yorkshire forum.
Cheers

1841 Census
Tetney, Lincolnshire
HO107/646/6/Tetney
Frederic OLSON, 28, Shoe M
Ann Olson, 27
Sophia Olson, 4
Henry Olson, 1
All born in County
Reg district for Tetney is Louth. Ages are rounded in 1841 Census. Henry is probably Elmitt Henry born 1840. Notice they are all born in county. But they still could have married in Yks.
Next door neighbours are;
Thomas BRUMPTON, 70, cottager/lab
Ann Brumpton, 52
Harriett Brumpton, 11
Trish :)
Edit; it is Brumpton, have amended
-
Christenings from Freereg;
St Peter and St Paul, Tetney, Lincolnshire;
MATTHEW Brumpton, 30 March 1824
HARRIOTT Brumpton, 02 August 1829
Parents THOMAS/ANN, occp Farmer
All Saints, Tealby, Lincolnshire;
ANN Brumpton, 01 September 1814
Parents THOMAS/ANN, abode Tealby, occp of Father- Farmer
Now by the difference in Anns age to Thomas on 1841 Census it is possible she is a second Wife.

YA HOO Familysearch is back up ;D
Extracted Marriage IGI;
Ann BRUMTON
Frederick OLSON
22 July 1834, Holy Trinity, Kingston Upon Hull, Yorkshire
So the Submitted Record on IGI has some info that can be confirmed;
Frederick and Ann did marry in 1834 Yks
They did possibly have Elmitt Henry 1840 and EDWARD 1843
There is a Death of an Eliza OLSON on Freebmd reg Louth 1846
www.freereg.org.uk has Edward/Elmitt/Elizas christenings in Tealby
Freereg also has Elizas death aged 1 week
There is also the death of a Sabina aged 13 in 1849 ( could this be Sophia aged 4 in 1841 Census?) Her name could have been heard wrongly by enumerator..

Marriage 13 Sept 1813 at Tealby

Thank you Geoff E ;D
I can always rely on you to come along. As I can only work from what is freely available on the Net I appreciate the help.
Death from Freereg;
Ann OLSON, age 40, buried 15 August 1854, Tealby
Maybe Frederick remarried before going to NZ?

The main thing you need to do Paul is purchase the Birth Cert of Edward!!!
Anything else is not proven until you have his Fathers name etc from it.

1851
Tetney
Frederic HOLSON 36 Cordwainer, London Whitechapel
Ann 36 Tealby
Elmit 11 Tetney
Edward 7 Tetney
HO107/2112/477/14

You are brilliant Geoff ;)
So death of Ann in Tealby 1854 is probably correct.
All the christenings have Frederic as a cordwainer but I wasnt worried about it being shoe maker in 1841 as they are they same occp.
Possible Christening;
Frederick OLSON
26 July 1818, St Mary Whitechapel, Stepney, London, England
Parents FREDERICK and MARY

Trish, Geoff
It amazes me how quickly such comprehensive replies are posted. Many thanks. I have never purchased a birth cert from England before. What is the best way to go about that? (from New Zealand).

Hi Paul,
Frederick Olson was my 3rd great grandfather.
His first son Frederick born in 1810 emigrated to New Zealand and I am his second great grandson.
I have only managed to go back as far as Frederick who (from 1851 census )
was born in Wismar, Mecklenberg, Germany, but can not find any more information on him before his arrival in the UK.
Any new information would be greatly appreciated.
Here is what I have on Frederick's family..
