Hi everyone
Sometime ago you did some excellent research for me about a relative who emigrated to Montreal Canada. To recap it was about a William Herring B1887 Swindon Wilts. who emigrated to Canada together with a Emma J Herring nee Green B1890 in Aston. You located them for me living at 5434 Drake St. in 1919.
At the time they had 3 children William J. Junior B1910.
Leonard B1913.
Frederick B1917.
William Senior enlisted in the CEF for WW1.
Now my problem did William and Emma have more children? I seem to have found a photograph of a soldier I believe is William together with Emma and a child. The photo appears to be dated June1922. The child is about 2 years old. William is still in uniform and his badge is for the 22 Bn Canadien Francais.
I wonder if you could find what happened to the family after they were all back at Drake St Montreal.
Hope the above makes sense!
Henery :)

Do you have the marriages of William James, Leonard and Frederic Charles as they are also in the Drouin records?

I don't think the "H" is a given name. I believe that was the surname written in the margin and the given names were simply R.D.

Hi Cosmac
Many many thanks for your info.I look forward to knowing the christian name of H. R. D. Herring.
The additional info of children born later Georgina Clare Herring B1926 and Died 1926 ties in with family tradition. William's mother's name was Georgina and Emma's mother's name was Clara!
The Edward Dean is surprising!
I do not have the marriages of William Junior or Leonard and Frederick.
Would appreciate having this info.

Jacquie is correct and what I mistook for a Christian name was actually the transcription of the Herring surname. His initials are R.D. only.

Hi Jacquie in Canada
Pleased to meet you.
I see what you mean about H R D Hemming I presume you are indicating that the entry is Herring R.D. At this stage not sure.
R for Robert is William's father's name and Douglas is a brother's name.
Will keep an open mind on this.
Thanks for info.
Regards
Henery

I'm certain it says Herring and that R.D. is the son of your couple. I was only pointing out that the name in the left hand margin was the surname and not a given name for the son. This entry says:
Herring R.D., son of William James Herring, blacksmith...

I'm replying to a message you wrote 18 months ago - which I just came across when googling my grandfather's name. I guess we are related. From reading your posts, I see we certainly shared a great aunt - Florence Minnie Don (nee Green). To confirm the answer to your question, yes Robert Douglas Herring was born on August 26 1921 in Montreal and passed away in April 1999 in Calgary. He was my father. I'm not sure how to send a private message, as I just joined this site, but you may know how. Contact me if you'd like more info. Great to meet you.

Hello,
My name is Elaine and my great grandfather was William James Herring. I never met him because he died before I was born but I got to know my great grandmother, Emma Jane, who used to live on Champigny street, in Montreal, with her sister, Auntie Flo. Emma Jane died in 1974 or 1975 - I can't remember for sure, I was about 10 years' old. My grandfather was one of her sons, Frederick Charles Herring. I remember that I met his brother Robert who was from Calgary and who came to my great grandmother's funeral. And I know he had other brothers as well, but I never met them because they were already gone. One of them died tragically in a car accident.
My grandfather, Frederick Charles was married to Rita Girard, a French Canadian. They had 2 daughters, (*), who was born in 1941 or 1942 and (*), who was born in December 1943 (my mother). My grandfather died on October 7, 1976 at the age of 59. He had a bad heart condition.
(*) married a medical doctor of Turkish origin, (*), in the early 60s and they moved to the United States. She was a registered nurse. They lived in New Haven Connecticut for a while, then in Jacksonville, Florida, and also in the Boston area. She had 3 children : (*).
My mother (*) married (*) in 1963 and had 3 children as well: me, my brother (*) and sister (*). She got divorced and remarried later.
I have pictures of my great grandmother and grandparents if you are interested.

Hello Elaine
My name is Leslie Green and my Great Aunt Emma Jane Green b1890 Birmingham,England married William James Herring and emigrated to Montreal,Canada in 1912. Her sister Florence Minnie emigrated to be with her at a later date. I have been researching the Green-Herring (sorry about the link!) families for a number of years and have made connections with cousins in Canada and USA.
I do have a very strong connection with a (*) in Toronto who has provided me with a lot of the Canadian family history, together with photos. Which I would be happy to forward.
Perhaps we could make contact by email. This would have to be done by the Rootschat private mailbox system which becomes available after you have mailed 3 messages.
So far names you have mentioned tie in with my Family Tree and provide extra information.
Regards Les

Greetings Elaine & Les as well.
Elaine, I am your mother's cousin. It is great to hear from you. We no doubt met at your grandfather's (my Uncle Fred) funeral in 1976. My wife Ann and I were living in Montreal at the time (Ile des Soeurs) and we were at both your grandfather's funeral that year and your great grandmother's as well, which was the same year. You mentioned Robert Herring from Calgary. He was my father and passed away in 1999. My brother (*) (and his wife (*)) still lives in Calgary as do his two sons
(*). My mother Marjorie passed away in Calgary in 2010 (she was 88) and my sister Patricia passed away in Calgary in 2009 (she was 53). I would like to get in touch with you and I will try to send a private message.
cheers,
Glen Herring

Hi Glenn,
I was 11 when my grandpa passed away so I don't remember much. But I remember your sister Patricia at my great grandmother's funeral because I thought she was beautiful and she was wearing a peach outfit. I am sorry to hear she passed at such a young age. I also remember your father, uncle Bob. I will post a few messages so you can send me a private message.

Hi Les,
I got your e-mail address. I will scan some old photos and send them to you sometime this week.
It was fun to read the story of my great granfather and great grandmother, and also of Auntie Flo. I couldn't speak English very well when I was younger - I was raised in French mostly - and therefore could not communicate with them that well.
