I have hit a brickwall with a descendant and really need someone to look up his marriage certificate and to see if there is a father listed, name of father and if deceased.
The marriage is between Samuel Buffey and Anne Platt, and is in the December 1847 quarter. On Free BMD it is listed as Wolverhampton district ( I think it would have been in Bilston) and is volume 17 page 419.
If anyone is anywhere near the relevant records office it would be so helpful with thanks ;)

Sharsc you need to order the certificate from www.gro.gro.uk
Linell.

Oh thanks :-[
being in Oz I am never sure where records can be viewed and where not as it seems to differ. I had a similar inquiry for Liverpool and a lady managed to go in and photocopy and scan and send to me! I thought it may be similar.
thanks again

:D Oh thanks so much! saved me money and time- end result not so good as I still do not know the grooms fathers name just that it began with J !! but oh well another step in the process!

Id bet on James or John ;D
-
yes, we are thinking John.
we have four probable brothers ,John,James, Joseph and Jeremiah. The last three we can trace through various census.
Our problem is that Samuel and his sister Isabelle always fill in France (British, a, subject ) as birthplace on census etc.
Samuel was born in 1828 and Isabelle in 1832.
In the 1841 census we can locate Isabelle a sister Mary ( place of birth unknown 1837 ) and Sarah (mother? on census)
in 1851 Samuel is married (to Anne Platt) and they and Isabelle are living with a cousin ( Joseph Baffy on census)
No more traces of Sarah or sister Mary.
we can then follow Samuel and Isabelle through to their deaths but want to go back and cannot find out what their fathers name is ( nor really confirm that Sarah is their mother) nor why on earth they were born in France.
The rest of the Buffey family were all in Bilston a the point when the two were born in France.
any suggestions most welcome

Hello,
You can get a bit more information from www.wolverhamptonhistory.org.uk/resources/familyhistory
Scroll down to the Wolverhampton marriage lists 1751 to 1903 , and look for either Samuel or Ann there.
Yours,
Handm

mmmmm thanks. why would it be that on Free Reg I can pick up the information and it says they were married at St Peters, but on the list that you sent ( above) (which is great by the way) no marriage for Buffey / Platts shows up ??

Hello,
Sorry you could not find the entry. It is there.
Look in Wolverhampton marriages surnames A-E and it is on page 32.
Samuel's father is listed as deceased.
Hope this helps.

sorry, I looked a the St Peter one as I knew they married there- didn't even realize the other one followed. With thanks- again no first name for father >:(

Hello again Sharon,
I am glad you found the reference, although it does not get you much further on.
Did you look at the Bilston records on the same site? There are Buffey baptisms and burials there. The baptisms may help to sort out who was married to who, and who their children were. It might be useful.

Yes I did look, unfortunately as I said the four apparent brothers were all J's and the Samuel ( and Isabelle ) I am looking for were born in France.
To go any further I need their fathers name which it seems I have run our of possibilities.
thanks so much anyway
regards
Sharon
Blimey as soon as I hit send I realised I had not checked Isabelle and there he was JOHN BUFFEY!! a breakthrough at last. Thanks you so much for your help.
