Trying to find the parents of
John Shuttleworth born 1820
Father possibly James Shuttleworth born Cowling
Mother Ann nee Heaton
In 1851 they are living at Surgill Head Lothersdale and all children on 1851 born in lothersdale.
I need this info desperately or my Shuttleworth trail goes cold!!!!!

Why not order the film of the 1841 census from your nearest LDS centre then you can search it at your leisure? Hardly any of it is indexed (though you may be lucky) so someone is going to have to search it - might as well be you! You may find other family members that no other person will recognise.

I too have an interest in Lothersdale and knew I had come across Surgill Head in my own research. Kenneth Wilson wrote a book - The History of Lothersdale - now out of print - from which I quote:-
SHUTTLEWORTHS
Here again Lothersdale and Cowling were closely associated and the family trees we shall produce will tell something of the story.
The Shuttleworth who was the real village character was 'arry O'Surgill 'ead' who repaired the mill dams with clay from near his house. Callers at Surgill Head would often find Harry and his wife smoking Church Warden pipes.
James Shuttleworth from COWLING conducted the choir at the Church and would rub his neck with a tallow candle if he were hoarse.
If you care to let me have your phone number, I can fill you in some more.#

I have many names for Lothersdale and I have also purchased the 1841/1851/1861 census records for all of West and North Yorkshire.
Who are your name interets in Lothersdale?
They may be in my tree also.

Thanks for your message.
I am interested in the names Wilson and Hartley. I hasten to add that I have no connection with the Wilson's who owned the mill.
My principal area of interest is now prior to 1841 for I have got the Census information myself.
Thanks

I have nibbled at this thread before Rowdy, just trying to be helpful.
However, much to my surprise, I now find that the Shuttleworths and Surgill Head are connected to my tree. In Particular I am interested in Joseph Shuttlewoth 1824 son of James Shuttleworth and Ann [Nanny] Heaton.
Joseph m Alice Hartley.
Further, after searching for several years I now have copies of the Shuttleworth Lothersdale Trees attributed to Kenneth Wilson.

Hello there,
In your post you mentioned that Joseph Shuttleworth married Alice Hartley. I'm wondering if this Alice is one on my 'tree'. Mine was born in Lothersdale at around 1819 and the daughter of Peter and Jane Hartley (Jane was a Proctor)
Could this be the same lady?
