They were married in the 1850's and had the following children: Edward Conroy (b. 1857), Thomas Conroy (b. 1859), Anne Conroy (b. 1862), Mary Conroy (b. 1866), Eliza (b. 1868), Bridget (b. 1871), James (b. 1873) and Honora, Margaret (b. 1877). I believe Bridget, Eliza, Margaret, Mary, Thomas and Honora came to the US - any information that you have would be great.

Edward was apparently the only sibling to remain in Ireland - he died there in 1944. He had been married to Margaret Delaney and they had the following children: John, James, Bridget, Joseph and Thomas all born between 1902-1910) any information on their children would be very much appreciated.

An update - John died in Ireland in 1882 and wife Bridget died in Ireland in 1897.
It appears that all the children came to the United States except brother Edward who died in Ireland in 1944 - believed him to be married to Margaret Delaney.
Any info on Edward and family would be great.

If Edward stayed in Ireland and didn't die until 1944 he should be listed in 1911 census-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search
-
found a possible listing for Edward and Margaret on the 1911 census with 5 children - see : Conroy family in Ballynahimmy (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Queen_s_Co_/Castleduff/Ballynahimmy/787858/) townland.
Ballynahimmy is in the west of Co. Laois near to the border with Co. Offaly and about 20km from Mountmellick - see : Mountmellick to Ballynahimmy (http://www.google.ie/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=mountmellick&daddr=Ballynahimmy&hl=en&geocode=%3BFbv5KgMdegSM_ynNDjGqoABdSDGSdbW6p8cAJg&mra=ls&sll=53.093612,-7.45079&sspn=0.179779,0.4216&ie=UTF8&ll=53.136061,-7.466583&spn=0.179602,0.4216&z=11) townland on google maps
based on these details there's a possible marriage match in the Irish Civil Index (http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347)
Name: Edward Conroy
Registration district: Mountmellick
Record type: Marriage
quarter and year: Jan - Mar 1901
Volume: 3 / Page: 383
Name: Margaret Delaney
[same index details]
You can order a marriage cert from the GRO to check these details - see : http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm
The earlier details, i.e. marriage of Bridget & John , births of Edward etc, are before civil registration started in 1864, so church records will be required.
edit : I dont see a town or townland on google maps in the area named Clonaslee (although it does appear on the townland database) , but it could be an alternate name for the nearby town marked as Clonsilla .. which is 6km to the east of Ballynahimmy

Thanks for this info.
Any ideas on how I can find out about Edward's children?

Thanks for this info.

you can search for their index details on the civil index (mentioned earlier) and order birth certs, which will give more details - e.g. full date and place of of birth, mother maiden name etc
If you are looking for later details - you could try searching for their marriages using the civil index. It may be possible to find some matches if they stayed in the same area, but you would have to order marriage certs to be sure, as these would show father's names and occupations.
(The familysearch Irish Civil index covers details up to 1958)

Hi there
I live in Clonaslee and I know the townland of Ballynahimmy.
The house that Edward,Margaret and family lived in is still there,it has not been lived in in years.
My aunt can recall Thomas,Joseph and Bridget all living in that house, all were un-married.
James Conroy married and lived elsewhere in Clonaslee,he had 3 children.
His son Sean is living here, married with children.
He would be your only Conroy relative in Clonaslee today.
Hope this helps.

Hi
This probably doesn't help your search, but I am looking for a lady with the Conroy surname from mountmeelick who married a John O'Loughlin and they went to live in America, he was born around late 1850 - 1860's. I am still working on this, if you don't know anything don't worry, but maybe there could be a link.
My sister is waiting to hear back from Sonoma library in California regarding their son: http://www.sonomalibrary.org/ref/faq-obit.html The details should include the names of his mother and father.

Hi
I have been in touch with Fionnuala as well. I would love to know more about the family. It appears Edward was the only sibling that stayed in Ireland. I would like to know where Edward and his wife Margaret are buried and when they died. Do you have any info on the Brophy's or who John Conroys parents were?
I have some info on Edward's siblings that came to the United States.

My great-granfather was James Conroy born in Clonislee around 1890 if that helps you at all. He had several brothers and sisters and moved to America at the turn of the century. I could check with my grandmom to see what his siblings names were if that helps you.

Hi
My great grandmother had a brother James born in Clonaslee but he was born around 1873 - he died in 1932 in New York. I know he married and had a child but I don't know there names. Yes please find out siblings names and we'll see if there is a connection.
