Unless anyone is already researching this family your request is a bit vague.

It would help if you told us what you already know and what you would like to know - names, dates etc.

Many of us enjoy a challenge, but we do need someting to work with  :D

This is an old post but for what it is worth, that is my grandfathers family.
I don't know much more than is in the census records unfortunately.

Welcome to Rootchat Roger.
Craven has not been on Rootschat since 2011.

We may be able to help you.
Who is your earliest Ancestor on Census entries (date and place of birth?)

Trish :)

I am happy with what I have found out about my grandfathers family in Leicestershire but...
I have two roadblocks
1)
My grandmothers mothers maiden name was Elizabeth David and she was born in Glamorgan, Wales in 1850. But there are many Elizabeth David's born in Glamorgan in 1850 so I can't find her parents. In 1870 she married an Evan Cule (b1846 in Glamorganshire)
2)
The story goes that my grandfather's little brother Leonard Hefford b1883 went off to the USA and was never heard of again.
But I find there is a record of Leonard Hefford b1883 taking a ship from Liverpool to Halifax arriving 22 apr 1910.  Then the electoral roles in Newfoundland show a Leonard Hefford living there until 1972 which seems about right. No marriage, no death record.  How do I prove this is my grandfathers brother?  Its a rare name

The Marriage Cert of Elizabeth and Evan will have her Fathers name/occp which will help narrow it down for her in Census,

Was Leonard- Leonard Charles H?
Marriage Reg June 1904, Leicester, 7a 652 to Annie DAFT or Harriet REED

Sorry no other suggestions re Leonard.

Trish :)

A Leonard C 27 in 1910 is a gardener going to Calgary

Name:    Leonard C Hefford
Gender:    Male
Age:    27
Estimated Birth Year:    abt 1883

Thanks for the info.

For 100 years they thought something happened to him but it looks like he just didn't like to keep in touch with his family for whatever reason.

I learnt something interesting from this exercise, the Heffords in Leicestershire were impoverished(probably) textile workers, and the 3 generations I find appear to have criminal records for petty theft.

Dear Roger,

I am sad today to find out that Jenny (Craven) has passed away in 2012 after a short illness.
